Gruesome New Trailer For 'Valhalla Rising'

The second trailer for director Nicolas Winding Refn's viking epic, Valhalla Rising has hit the Web and it is a dark, bloody affair.

IFC Films has unveiled a new trailer for the macabre Viking tale Valhalla Rising before its release in the states this month, and it definitely looks to be a gruesome scenic affair.

Director Nicolas Winding Refn - best know for gritty, violent material like Bronson and The Pusher Trilogy - recently made headlines when he declared his personal interest in helming a Wonder Woman movie. Based off the footage in this trailer for his new film, Refn would certainly bring an eye for dark, uncouth visuals to that project - should he be given the opportunity, that is.

You can check out the new Valhalla Rising trailer below (NOTE: This trailer contains snippets of graphic violence and gore so it is definitely NSFW):

There's an undeniably low-budget feel to this trailer - the fake-looking spurts of blood especially stick out - though the cinematography looks to be impressively chilly and subdued.  In the post-300 age of violent quasi-historical epics, it's ironically kind of refreshing to see a film like Valhalla Rising where the gory fight sequences are not filmed in a highly-stylized fashion.

What do you think?  Does Valhalla Rising look like an interesting action pic?  Does watching this trailer make you more interested in seeing Refn bring Wonder Woman to the big screen?  Sound off in the comments section below.

Valhalla Rising will open in theaters in New York on July 16th, 2010.  It will expand beginning July 30th and will be available on demand via IFC Midnight.
