One of the central mechanics of V Rising is hunting for V Blood Carriers, powerful and often supernatural beings with potent Blood that can be tracked down with a device known as the Blood Altar. The Blood Altar displays every V-Blooded enemy throughout the world, providing the Boss's name and a short description of their backstory or unique characteristics. However, the main information that Vampire adventurers should pay heed to is the "Rewards."

A V Blood Carrier's Rewards reveal what new abilities, Structure Blueprints, and Recipes are given to the protagonist once they defeat the particular enemy. Naturally, some of the items earned will be better than others, but every Boss in V Rising is guaranteed to reward players with something worthwhile for their journey. For example, the first V Blood Carrier, Alpha Wolf, offers the Vampire Power of Wolf Form, the ability to transform into a large wild canine. While this ability is far from impractical, the Blood Altar info shown about Keely the Frost Archer will reveal that her Rewards are more substantial, featuring unlocks such as the Tannery and the Recipe for Leather.

The Blood Altar displays V Blood Bosses in V Rising in order of level progression, with each enemy down the line being stronger than the last. Vampire adventurers must not only reach the recommended character level before facing a Carrier, but they should also outfit themselves with the highest tier of equipment available. After all, confronting a Level 36 Boss as a Level 36 character but with a Gear Score of 10 is naturally far from optimal.

Unlocking & Using Blood Altars In V Rising

To unlock the Blood Altar in V Rising, players will need to reach the eleventh Journal Quest of the game's main campaign, "Blood Hunt." The Blueprint for the altar becomes available once Vampires have completed the previous quest, "Getting Ready for the Hunt," which tasks participants with constructing a Sawmill and Simple Workbench. The first objective of "Blood Hunt" is for players to "Construct and interact with a Blood Altar.Vampires can build this Structure by opening the Build Menu, selecting Production, and then choosing Dominance. The Recipe should appear, requiring Stone ×180 and Blood Essence ×10.

Once Vampires have placed down their Blood Altar, they must interact with it by approaching and pressing the F key by default. Next, choose a suitable target in the V Blood Carrier selection screen and click on "Track Blood." After closing the Blood Altar window, a long, swirling red mist will appear, indicating the direction players must go to find their target in V Rising.
