Horses are passive mobs in V Rising that vampires can mount and ride as they travel about the world. These Mounts can spawn in multiple locations, primarily within Dunley Farmlands and Silverlight Hills. These two regions are directly above the starting area of the game, Farbane Woods. Therefore, players will only be able to get their first Horse once they've left this initial region in this survival-based open world.

Farbane Woods is full of Bandit Camps, but once V Rising players reach Dunley Farmlands, they will encounter their first Militia Camp. The Farms and Militia Encampments directly north of these first camps will have rideable Mounts. As mentioned above, Silverlight Hills to the northwest also has Horses, yet players are recommended to avoid this high-level area if they are still in the beginner stages of their playthrough. Additionally, the enemies and mobs within Dunley Farmlands are leveled at 30 and above. While it's possible to slip past the hostile patrols, it would be wise for players to reach Level 30 first and equip themselves with appropriate gear before venturing north of Farbane Woods.

To mount a Horse in V Rising, approach any Horse and hold the F key. Once claimed, the creature becomes the indie survival player's Mount. This characteristic is naturally removed if the Horse dies or is killed by an NPC or another player. If a vampire dismounts their Horse, the animal will stay put unless it is attacked, after which it will run for a short distance to escape danger. Moreover, a new "Mount menu" will become accessible by pressing "Tab" near one's Horse. The window will display its unique characteristics, including its Max Speed, Acceleration, and Rotation Speed. These attributes will vary depending on the Horse.

It is important to mention that no Horse can live forever in V Rising and has a fixed "life timer" that triggers once a player mounts it. This information is displayed within the Horse's menu. To extend a Mount's life, players can place a Water-filled Canteen into one of the slots of the Horse's inventory. Keep in mind that these portable waterskin containers only become available once the Tannery has been unlocked. However, these Canteens do not affect a Mount's ability to fast travel through Waygate portals.

One final characteristic players should understand about Horses in V Rising is that they do not move as the vampire character does. Mounts turn using "A" and "D" and move forward and backward with "W" and "S," similar to a car in a racing game. One recommendation to make riding a Horse easier is by using the Auto Run feature in the game's Controls. This lets players use the mouse's camera movement to control the Horse's direction.
