The anime adaptation of Junji Ito's twisted masterpiece, Uzumaki, is being delayed again — but for a good reason. The manga is set in the small Japanese town of Kurouzu-cho, whose residents become obsessed with spiral shapes. High school student Kirie and her boyfriend Shuichi must uncover the meaning behind the supernatural curse and attempt to break it. Adult Swim announced production on the four-episode miniseries in 2019 at the Crunchyroll Expo. However, in June 2021, director Hiroshi Nagahama announced a delay to the Uzumaki TV show due to COVID-related difficulties, and the anime became set for an October 2022 release.

The UzumakiAnime Twitter account now reports that the Uzumaki series is being delayed once again. A memo from the production team accompanies the post, thanking fans for their patience but requesting more time to complete their work. The statement says that Ito's intricate artwork demands only the highest caliber effort, and that the team does not want to compromise the quality of Ito's iconic series by delivering an inferior product. Unfortunately, there is no new Uzumaki anime release date mentioned. Check out the post below.

Delays can be disappointing, but the Twitter replies to the Uzumaki delay news are mainly positive due to the team's commitment to creating a superior adaptation. Fan reception to the Junji Ito Collection's animation show was middling when Crunchyroll released the anime anthology series in 2018, so Ito readers are likely happy that the Uzumaki team is taking the time to get it right. Unlike last time, however, Nagahama and his team do not offer a revised released date, so prospective viewers must stay tuned for further updates.
