Zack Snyder teased a new look for Jared Leto's Joker in his upcoming cut of Justice League. After a lengthy fan campaign, the Snyder Cut is finally being released as a four hour movie on HBO Max in March. Snyder oversaw a repurposing of hours of VFX shots for the film that will see the DCEU director complete his original vision for the film after he stepped away from production in 2017.

In order to complete his vision, Snyder was able to do reshoots for the film as well. The director has been steadily hinting at what's to come in his cut of Justice League, with appearances from Martian Manhunter to new scene with various characters from the original film. The reshoots were by no means extensive, but they will feature the return of Leto and now it looks like he'll have a new look as well.

Fans were first introduced to Leto's Joker in David Ayer's Suicide Squad. His look in that film leaned heavily into the Clown Prince of Crime aesthetic, but now Snyder has showed off a new image that teases a different look for the character. In the image, Leto is holding the iconic playing card that symbolizes his character. While the rest is rather blurry, it looks as if the Joker is wearing the iconic makeup that many fans will be familiar with. He also looks to have longer hair in the image, almost similar to Joaquin Phoenix's turn in 2019's Joker.

The new look for Leto’s Joker may a come as a surprise to some fans, but it’s a welcome change. Reception to Leto’s iteration of the character was decidedly mixed and was only muddled by Heath Ledger’s stunning, Oscar winning turn in 2008 and Phoenix’s own Oscar winning turn in the 2019 film. It’s hard to live up to such high expectations and those, coupled with the fact that Leto’s screen time in Suicide Squad was extremely limited, left fans with a touch of disappointment.

It seems Snyder is looking to recity that, though and the new look could provide a deeper insight into Let’s version of the iconic character. The new look could also indicate what type of Joker scene we’re getting. In the official DCEU timeline, both Suicide Squad and Justice League take place in 2016. With such a drastic change in looks, it seems Snyder may be giving fans a flashback to the character’s past. It would make sense, considering his long-running relationship with Batman has only been hinted at in the DCEU and never fleshed out. We’ll have to wait until Justice League hits HBO Max in March to get a full look, as Snyder likely doesn’t want to reveal all of his secrets ahead of the film’s highly anticipated release.
