What can viewers expect from a second season of Amazon’s comedy series Upload? Created by Greg Daniels (Parks & Recreation), Upload is a sci-fi comedy satire series which explores a not-so-distant future in which technology is so advanced it controls every single aspect in people’s lives: from food you can print, to uploading your consciousness when you die so you can live on in a digital scenario.

Upload follows Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell), a young man trying to succeed in the digital world, and who after a car crash is pushed by his girlfriend to upload himself so they can be together (essentially) forever. Once there, he meets Nora (Andy Allo), a customer service rep who plays the role of “angel” for the uploads under her watch. Nora serves as a guide for Nathan, and also discovers there’s something not quite right with him, the way he died, and his avatar’s files.

Upload shoots many shots at consumerism, capitalism, and the digital world, all of it with a touch of comedy (which can sometimes turn dark) and a message about humanity and how technology has started to take over it. Upload’s ending sets everything up for a second season – and here’s everything you need to know about the series’ future.

Amazon’s Upload Renewal Status

Upload Amazon Nathan Luke

While some TV shows get renewed before their first season is released, Upload will have to wait a bit longer. Amazon hasn’t order a second season yet, and even though the story left the door wide open for it, its renewal will depend on other factors, mainly viewership and how well it’s received by the audience. This doesn’t mean that Upload won’t get a second season, but it’s not official yet.

If Upload is renewed for a second season, it will take longer than usual to be released due to the coronavirus pandemic. In order to ensure everyone’s health and safety, many film and TV productions have been put on hold, and that would be the case for Upload’s season 2. In a normal situation, Upload season 2 would see the light in late 2021/early 2022, but given the current worldwide emergency, viewers will have to wait until mid or late 2022 at the earliest to catch up with Nathan, Nora, and Ingrid.

Amazon’s Upload Season 2 Story Details

Upload season 1 had its fair dose of mystery as it’s unknown who messed with Nathan’s memories and provoked the accident that led to him being uploaded. Season 1 didn’t solve this, but it left a couple of clues that will set the ground for future episodes. Upload season 2 will continue to try to discover who deleted Nathan’s memories and who really is behind his car crash. Meanwhile, Nathan will struggle with life as a “2GB” until he can afford an upgrade as well as with Ingrid’s arrival, as she chose to upload herself so they can truly be together. As for Nora, her relationship with Nathan was left in the air, and she will have to take a decision between moving on with her life (probably alongside Byron) or staying by Nathan’s side, which won’t be easy with Ingrid now in Lakeview.
