Vin Diesel is best known for his portrayal of Dominic Toretto in the Fast & Furious franchise, but the actor has several notable film projects in the works. Diesel, who was born as Mark Sinclair, has been working professionally in the industry for over three decades. With his affinity for action-heavy projects, Diesel has become one of the highest-grossing actors in Hollywood. He officially got his start with an uncredited role in 1990's Awakenings before getting his big break in the late '90s.

In 1998, Diesel played Private Adrian Caparzo in Saving Private Ryan, which he followed up by voicing the titular character in The Iron Giant the next yearShortly after, Diesel acquired roles that would go on to truly transform his career into a bonafide action star. First, he played Riddick in 2000's Pitch Black, and the following year, Diesel made his debut as Dominic Toretto in The Fast and the Furious. He then took on the role of Xander Cage in XXX before franchise sequels filled his resume to The Chronicles of Riddick and The Fast Saga film series. Aside from some standalone titles, Diesel also joined another heavy-hitting franchise in the MCU, voicing the role of Groot starting with 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. He has since been involved in three more MCU sequels, with more to come.

Speaking of Diesel's future, the actor has been tapped for several big franchise sequels. That said, Fast & Furious and the MCU won't be his sole focus in the near future. Diesel will expand his presence on TV by executive producing and voicing a character in ARK: The Animated Series based on the video game franchise. He will also serve as an executive producer in Merc City, a spinoff series set in The Chronicles of Riddick franchise. Though not confirmed, it's possible Diesel will have some involvement in Disney+'s I Am Groot, a series of animated shorts based on Diesel's MCU character. If one thing is certain, it's Diesel's busy schedule for the foreseeable future, especially with film projects. Here's a breakdown of Vin Diesel's upcoming movie roles.

F9 - June 25, 2021

Dom talks in the microphone in F9

Four years after the last Fast & Furious installment, Diesel will return to his most notable role of Dominic Toretto for F9. The movie marks Diesel's eighth appearance in The Fast Saga's feature film installments, which should come as no surprise since he's a major reason why the franchise is still going strong. As the central figure, Dom will reunite his crew to again face off with Charlize Theron's Cipher. However, this time around, Cipher has the help of Dom's younger brother, Jakob Toretto (John Cena). Aside from more ridiculous action sequences, F9 will feature the return of several Tokyo Drift characters, including Sung Kang's Han. The Justin Lin-directed movie will also provide more insight into Dom's origin story, dating back decades.

Thor: Love and Thunder - May 6, 2022

Guardians of the Galaxy in Thor 4 Love and Thunder

Based on the next chapter of the God of Thunder's journey, it seems likely Diesel will be involved in Thor: Love and Thunder in some capacity. The actor will be reprising his voice role of Groot for the upcoming MCU installment set in Phase 4. Director Taika Waititi is once again at the helm of the solo Thor film, which is set to feature members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Thor, of course, set off on a new adventure with the ragtag team following the events of Avengers: Endgame. While Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), and Nebula (Karen Gillan) have been confirmed for Love and Thunder, it would only make sense for Groot and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) to also be present. Groot and Rocket also had a special bond with Thor due to their previous journey together, so it would be hard to believe their absence in Love and Thunder.

Avatar 2 - December 16, 2022

Avatar 2 locations the Navi

Diesel will be adding a new major franchise to his acting credits with his casting in the long-awaited Avatar 2. James Cameron's sequel is finally set to arrive 13 years after the first Avatar movie, which became a trailblazing project for Hollywood in terms of visual effects. So far, there are no details regarding Diesel's role in Avatar 2. Still, he will be joining a star-studded cast, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, and Sigourney Weaver. Saldana, of course, is no stranger to Diesel, considering she has played a fellow member of the Guardians of the Galaxy for multiple MCU installments. Based on Diesel's casting, it's possible he could appear in future Avatar installments.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 - May 5, 2023

Following the presumable appearance of Groot in Thor: Love and Thunder, Diesel will again voice the beloved character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Also set in Phase 4 of the MCU, the third movie centered on the Guardians will be set after the events of Love and Thunder and Disney+'s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. James Gunn is writing and directing the forthcoming movie, which is gearing up to film in late 2021. Not much is known about the plot of the movie, but it will likely follow the Guardians' attempt to reunite with the alternate version of Gamora since her whereabouts are unknown following Endgame.

Fast & Furious 10th/11th Installments - TBA

Vin diesel Dom Fast and furious 9

In addition to MCU sequels, Diesel's packed schedule is also highlighted by more Fast & Furious installments. Barring any surprises, Dom Toretto is expected to have prominent roles in the tenth and eleventh movies in the series. These two movies will serve as the official end to The Fast Saga in what will act as a two-part finale. Justin Lin will direct the two films, which will bring to a close a story that spanned over two decades. While the plot is unclear, the two final Fast & Furious movies will surely bring back many familiar faces for one last high stakes mission, with Dom presumably at the center as the group's leader.

Muscle - TBA

Diesel will reteam with director F. Gary Gray for an upcoming film titled Muscle. The pair previously worked together on 2003's A Man Apart and 2017's The Fate of the Furious, the eighth film in The Fast Saga. The plot for Muscle is being kept under wraps for now, but it's being described as an action-comedy. Seeing as Muscle is scheduled to be filmed by the end of 2021, more details regarding the story and cast will likely be unveiled.

The Chronicles Of Riddick: Furya - TBA

Vin Diesel in Chronicles of Riddick

There's a good chance Diesel will reprise his role as Richard B. Riddick for an upcoming Chronicles of Riddick installment. The Chronicles of Riddick: Furya has been in the works since 2014, but Diesel revealed a script existed as of the summer of 2019. If it comes to fruition, the movie will tell the origin story of the antihero, who is a Furyan native and the last of the warrior race. The original Chronicles of Riddick movie spawned three sequels video games, comics, and books. If Vin Diesel no longer has Fast & Furious to focus on, it would make sense for the actor to return his fellow starring role in a major franchise.
