Movies and video games. The two are worlds apart. Beyond the storytelling aspect, video games offer immersive worlds for players to explore whereas movies only offer a window into the world. Yet, there are times when maybe movies can be considered to be video games as well.
With the year 2020 behind moviegoers, many turn their eyes expectantly towards the coming months of 2021 and the rash of delayed films. Towards the fascinating and intriguing films that lie ahead. And a few are asking the unusual question of what the movies would look like as games. And, perhaps, would they even be better than the feature presentation?
The Forever Purge
Now, the Purge films, depending on which fan someone talks to, vary in quality of content and ideas. It wouldn't be too surprising if The Forever Purge had the same level of division, especially with some of the fan theories circulating. Yet, a game where there are no rules, no consequences, and everything is legal would be amazing.
Granted, this can be said about any game out there. That just about every game has no consequences or rules. To play a full-fledge Purge game though with the same rules and aspects from the movies would be interesting.
The Many Saints Of Newark
Prequel films are almost always a tricky road to travel upon. Sometimes they do well, sometimes they don't. In the case of The Many Saints Of Newark, a prequel following a young Tony Soprano from The Sopranos, it could be a success on more than one level.
Ever since GTA and Mafia took off, gangster games have become as iconic as gangster movies. As a whole, a game based on the prequel set in the 1970's following gangsters taking over the city would be an epic game to play.
Godzilla Vs Kong
Ever since WB started their successful MonsterVerse, fans have been waiting for the showdown that's become known as Gozilla Vs Kong an idea that would make for one heck of a game.
Whether it be a simple Super Smash Bros. style game that allows players to choose either Kong or Godzilla and pit one against the other in massive, earth-shattering action or something else altogether. The possibilities for an awesome monster-on-monster game are endless.
The Kings Man
From James Bond to Ethan Hunt, the list of fictional spies continues with The Kingsmen, a group of British spies equipped with gadgets, brutal action, and witty one-liners.
With the prequel The Kings Man on the way, it offers the exciting possibility for a Kingsman game. Running around WWI, taking on evil figures like Rasputin, and unleashing a plethora of fantastic gadgets would make for a worthy Kings Man game.
Black Widow
For as long as the MCU has been around, it's been pumping out amazing yet somewhat formulaic movies that please audiences. That's not to say that there haven't been some incredibly unique films and hopefully, Black Widow can be one of them.
The long-awaited solo Black Widow film centered on everyone's favorite Marvel super-spy and assassin that will hopefully inspire a tie-in video game. Embarking on globe-trotting adventures, encountering other Marvel heroes and villains, and unleashing an arsenal of weaponry could make for a unique Marvel game and experience for all fans to enjoy.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage
So often, video games tackle the humanity within players. They give them choices to make that may or may not lead them down a dark and deadly path or light and bountiful one. It's the kind of game a movie like Venom: Let There Be Carnage could offer.
Focusing on the further adventures of Venom and Eddie Brock chasing down serial killer Cletus Kassady/Carnage, the film could allow for a similar approach. With the characters of Eddie and Venom at war with one another, it could show the hero either continuing on his anti-hero path or turning to the dark depending on the path one chooses.
Candyman
Horror-oriented games are always tricky to pull off. Sometimes, the games overuse the monster and make them seem all too human. Other times, the games just don't work and come off feeling unfinished.
Candyman, the reboot of the '90s horror classic, could offer the chance to break the mold. It could allow for gamers to either play as the nefarious Candyman or the helpless victims, sort of in a Dead By Daylight scenario that could work wonders for the horror genre of both movies and video games.
Halloween Kills
In the same spirit of Candyman breaking the mold, a killer like Michael Myers could break out on his own as well. With Halloween Kills, the sequel to the 2018 reboot of Halloween on its way, it opens up the possibilities for Myers to truly break out into the video game world.
Whether it be a Friday the 13th game style of playing, or a singular focus on Myers himself, the very idea of entering the world of Halloween via video games offers so many different possibilities.
Boss Level
Every now and then, there are times when movies can feel or look like video games. The film Boss Level offers up the same kind of thinking, following a man who keeps dying and dying over and over while he tries to take down a nefarious evil.
The idea of players dying and coming back is a time-honored tradition, but using the time loop idea for laughs with with action-oriented undertones, is not. As such, Boss Level offers an interesting idea for what could be an incredible game.
Free Guy
Whenever players get into an open-world game, they usually have a strange obsession with torturing and bullying the NPCs (non-player characters). Yet, what if the NPCs were the players? What if, like in Free Guy, the NPCs gained sentience?
It's a unique and fun idea, running around as an NPC with unmatched abilities and powers to take on the "players." It offers up endless possibilities for fourth-wall breakage, countless new abilities and powers to be unlocked, and the chance to play as Ryan Reynolds.
