Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1 by Dennis Culver, Chris Burnham, and Brian Reber hits the ground running by sending the team straight into the action. The Doom Patrol arrive in Gotham City to respond to an accident regarding an out-of-control metahuman. Led by Crazy Jane in her new alter as the Chief, Robotman, Elasti-Woman, Negative Man and new addition Beast Girl head to the source of the chaos: Metagen, a company looking to make a profit from experimenting on the new wave of metahumans. Unfortunately, their work with a metahuman known as Degenerate created a chaotic situation that unfortunately also draws the attention of a certain caped crusader. Meanwhile, the Doom Patrol's old nemesis, the Brain, now in an upgraded, robotic ape body, works with Monsieur Mallah to find their old ally from the Brotherhood of Evil, General Immortus.

From start to finish, there's a lot of action going on in the book. From Brain and Mallah fighting Immortus' armies to the Patrol taking on Metagen and their experiments, the book moves at a rapid pace. Chris Burham's art is perfect for this sort of title, which allows him to draw monsters and mayhem in his unique visual style. Culver also nails the tone of each individual member of the Doom Patrol and establishes a fantastic dynamic for the team that's both comical and endearing. Though the Doom's Patrol's current mission is very new, it really does feel like the next logical step for the team.

Unstoppable Doom Patrol is the Perfect Evolution for the Team

At its core, there's a real heart in this book. The Doom Patrol has always been one of DC's biggest non-traditional teams. But rather than sitting on the sidelines and stopping the occasional world-ending event, they're becoming an active part of the DCU. Their desire to save the metahumans of the world feels natural for the team and gives them a goal that's authentic to what the Doom Patrol really is: A caring group of misfits. It's a weird start to an already weird franchise. But it could be the team's most meaningful book yet. Whether a longtime fan of the team or a first time reader, Unstoppable Doom Patrol is a hilariously weird and action-packed story any comic fan will enjoy. Unstoppable Doom Patrol #1 is on sale now.
