U.S. Marshals believe they are getting closer to capturing Lester Eubanks, whose escape is a featured subject in the Unsolved Mysteries reboot. Hosted by the late Robert Stack, the original Unsolved Mysteries aired in 1987 and featured phenomenal, unbelievable, and unsolvable experiences of ordinary people. This year, Netflix released a fresh batch of real-life mysteries with the premiere of the Unsolved Mysteries reboot.

On October 19, Netflix unveiled volume 2, which features six new true crime tales that chronicle the events of missing children, tsunami ghosts, an unexplained death, and more. The “Death Row Fugitive” episode currently streaming on Netflix examines the mysterious circumstances surrounding Eubanks’ escape from custody. In 1965, Eubanks was convicted of the brutal murder of teenager Mary Ellen Deener in Ohio and sentenced to death. Shortly after, Eubanks’ sentence was converted to life in prison following the Supreme Court’s declaration that the death penalty is unconstitutional. In 1973, Eubanks escaped after being permitted a furlough Christmas shopping trip. Now, law enforcement could have developments in the Eubanks case.

Brian Fitzgibbon of the U.S. Marshal services stated he believes Eubanks is alive and said, “I feel we’re getting closer.” Reportedly, the marshal service has received numerous tips from Unsolved Mysteries viewers. Fitzgibbon confirmed some information from the public has helped to fill in some holes and revealed, “There’s nothing putting him in a place (location), we’re looking for any information to his life on the run or the history of his life on the run.”

Enveloped in a season of stories that includes a hairdresser disappearing in just 13 minutes, the unsettling murder of White House aide Jack Wheeler, and UFO sightings, Eubanks’ story appears to have garnered the most leads. As it stands, law enforcement continues to devote attention to the events that led to Eubanks' escaping. The U.S. Marshals ask that anyone with information regarding Eubanks’ whereabouts visit unsolved.com.

Despite numerous revamps, Unsolved Mysteries lost traction with viewers and experience a decline in ratings after being shuffled around networks. Sans a host, the Unsolved Mysteries reboot appears to be a winner for Netflix. To date, the show has received numerous credible tips and has left viewers anxious for more. Eubanks’ story remains one of the most mind-boggling tales of the series. However, the recent tips on Eubanks could lead to some closure for Deener’s family. Perhaps an Unsolved Mysteries viewer holds a viable piece of information that will lead to a swift resolution in the Leaser Eubanks’ case.
