Season 3 of the Lifetime original drama series UnREAL has now been officially delayed until 2018. Co-created by Marti Nixon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, the show follows the chief exploits of one Rachel Goldberg - as portrayed by Shiri Appleby - a young reality television producer pushed into drumming up salacious content for an audience of rapt viewers by domineering studio executive Quinn King (Constance Zimmer).

After enjoying two seasons on the air thus far, UnREAL (a TV show in part based on Shapiro's award-winning short film Sequin Raze) premiered on Lifetime back in June of 2015. Ahead of its season 2 premiere episode 'War'UnREAL was picked up for a third season, meaning fans of Appleby and Zimmer's past work on the cable series will be seeing even more of their favorite characters in the future.

Per an official Twiiter post published by Zimmer, the cast and crew behind UnREAL have confirmed that they won't be coming back for season 3 until next year, now that Lifetime has pushed the season's premiere back further than expected. Viewers who have kept up thus far with the TV show can rest assured that the program will continue, but will undoubtedly be a bit miffed to learn that it won't be back on the air this year, following the conclusion of the season 2 finale 'Friendly Fire', back in August of last year. Here's to the fans...Hang in there for #season3 @UnRealLifetime AIRING in the FIRST part of 2018!! #Unrealtv2018 pic.twitter.com/KLzL7ESwqc— Constance Zimmer (@ConstanceZimmer) June 4, 2017

It's always a good thing when a major network show receives another stay of execution, but fans of UnREAL will unfortunately have to wait for their favorite series to return for quite a while longer than might be preferable. Zimmer doesn't seem to be too concerned about the longevity of the series on Lifetime, though the wait for season 3 due out in 2018 will surely be a long one for the show's faithful viewers.

During a time of year when so many original programs are receiving full season orders or final cancellations, UnREAL viewers can breathe a sigh of relief in knowing that the Lifetime show will return to the air... eventually. In the meantime, fans of the original series will just have to find something else to watch while they await the return of the critically-acclaimed drama that explores the seedy underbelly of reality TV programming (and the producers that stand behind it), beyond simply re-watching seasons one and two.
