Mounts are often beloved collectibles in World of Warcraft, as they are a faster way to travel around Azeroth and the Shadowlands. For a while, it seemed there was one mount World of Warcraft: Shadowlands fans simply could not locate: the Slime Serpent. This mount is a giant, snakelike creature with a gaping maw full of sharp teeth. It initially appeared to have a journal entry that indicated players might find it in or around Plaguefall, one of the Maldraxxus dungeons. Fans in the WoW Secrets community on Discord struggled to figure out exactly the right combination of actions to take to unlock this free mount. Now, however, it appears the mystery has been solved.

Unlocking the Slime Serpent mount in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is a fairly simple task. Players simply need to defeat the final two bosses in the Plaguefall dungeon solo while playing on Heroic or Mythic difficulty. Certain classes and builds may find this more challenging than others. Part of the reason the mount was so difficult to find may be because soloing the final two bosses unlocks a hidden quest players would not necessarily know to look for. Here's how to unlock the Slime Serpent mount in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

How to Find the Curious Slime Serpent in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

To unlock the Slime Serpent mount in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, players will need to solo Margrave Stradama and Domina Venomblade in Plaguefall dungeon, either on Heroic or Mythic difficulty. Doing so will trigger a short hidden quest, during which players will find and unlock the mount. At the time of writing, it is not clear whether there are other requirements, like a specific level or amount of Renown needed, but so far, fans have not expressed any significant obstacles, apart from the difficult fights, to obtaining the mount.

It is admittedly difficult to solo these particular bosses on higher difficulties, especially for non-tank classes. Tank classes with high level gear like Vengeance Demon Hunters, Warlocks, and Beast Mastery Hunters are the least likely to struggle when trying to defeat Margrave and Domina alone. Players who are struggling may have better luck getting the mount by leveling an alt and completing Plaguefall with their alt instead.

When going to after the Slime Serpent mount, players can skip the first two bosses of Plaguefall by mounting past them. They will really only need to deal with the Trash mobs on their way to Domina. Fighting Domina should not be too difficult, as long as players use DPS attacks against her Brood Assassin adds and get them out of stealth before they can deal a large chunk of damage. Margrave's fight, while still challenging, should also be fairly simple for players as long as they avoid her Infectious Rain attack and dodge and quickly defeat the tentacle adds she summons.

After completing the fight with Margrave, players will need to return to Domina's fight arena. The easiest route to do this will be turning back and exiting the same way the player entered the final boss area, going up the stairs, and using the teleportation tile in an alcove to the right.

In one of the pools in the back corner of Domina's chamber, players will find a Curious Slime Serpent has spawned. They will need to walk up to the serpent and interact with it, petting it. This will unlock the mount, which will be added to the player's collection. The Slime Serpent will then be available to ride across the four domains in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.
