The game features a variety of different abilities that players unlock to help them get the upper hand on the Hiss. These effects also help elevate the game experience with each new power gained. But how do players unlock the different abilities the game offers?

Progress Through The Main Story in Control

The first method to gaining abilities in Control is straightforward: play through the main story. There will be two abilities that are unlocked via the main missions: Launch and Levitate. This helps players get a bit of a break when it comes to gaining new abilities. The rest of the abilities will not be easy to come by.

How To Unlock Each Ability & What They Do

As stated earlier, most of the abilities in Control will not be readily easy to gain. In addition to the main story, there are also side missions players need to undertake if they want the abilities they desire. Control features a variety of story-based and side missions for players to make the most out of. This way they can do more outside of the main story campaign and get more rewards out of it.

  • Launch: Launch is the first new ability players will unlock during the early hours of the game. It is acquired during the "Unknown Caller" main story mission at the game's beginning when players are in the Executive Sector. It allows Jesse to telekinetically lift an object to throw at a target.
  • Evade: This skill can be earned in the "A Merry Chase" side mission. This mission can be found in the Maintenance Sector and within the Janitor's Office there will be a room with a flashing red light. After completing the side quest, players will earn Evade which, as the name suggests, allows for dodging attacks.
  • Shield: Shield is arguably the hardest ability to earn. It can be unlocked in the side mission "A Good Defense." Before starting the mission, players will need to obtain the  "Research Home Safe Tests" collectible documents found in the Black Rock Processing or NSC Energy Converters areas. Or they can head to the "Field Training" area by the maintenance sector. There will be Hiss blocks that need to be dealt with before players enter the area. For this mission, there will be a series of rooms each with their own challenges to complete. Once they are all done, Jesse gains the Shield ability that allows her to form a barrier around herself using environmental objects.
  • Seize: Seize is unlocked during the side mission "A Captive Audience" within the Research Sector towards the middle of the game. Players will need to look for a statue split into pieces within the Parapsychology area and then they need to obtain a document to start the side quest. The mission will lead players to the Hypnosis Lab which will start a series of puzzle-solving objectives. Upon completing the mission, Seize allows players to temporarily take control of weakened enemies to fight for Jesse.
  • Levitate: Levitate is unlocked during the main story mission "My Brother's Keeper." Is the second ability earned via the main story and the last overall ability that is acquired in the game. Thanks to Levitate, Jesse can float in the air to take out enemies from above. It also helps with completing the rest of the other missions in-game.
