Players can start to unlock them as a character once they reach chapter 4. After completing the first main mission, a new mission will open up called "Offering Help on the Road" where players need to spend 4,500 rupees. After completing it, three more missions will open up.

  • Mission 1: Fairy Fountain: Desert Sands
  • Mission 2: Fairy Fountain: Deep Snows
  • Mission 3: Fairy Fountain: Grassy Plains

Completing all of these missions will open one final mission called "Fairy Fountain: Battlefield." Once this mission is done, players will be able to play as the Great Fairies on the battlefield.

The original Hyrule Warriors for the Nintendo Wii U allowed players to controls tons of different characters from different Zelda timelines. The game was ported over to the Nintendo 3DS and then the Nintendo Switch at a later date. It goes to show the title was a big hit since Nintendo trusted them with telling the story of the prequel of one of their most beloved titles. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity feels like a natural fit as being the starting point of the Breath of the Wild timeline. Now the wait for the sequel for Breath of the Wild won't feel as long.
