The action roguelike RPG Hades recently made its official release and is well worth playing. The player takes on the role of Zagreus. While his official title is Prince of the Underworld, he may well be the God of Perseverance, because he tries again and again to escape the underworld encountering all manner of friends and foes from Greek mythology. Every time he dies, the game claims “There is no escape,” but Zagreus aims to disprove that.

Zagreus does this by gathering things as he progresses, making himself more powerful with each attempt, and unlocking a variety of weapons with different playstyles. One of these Infernal Arms is called the Twin Fists of Malphon, which is a pair of armored gloves enabling Zagreus to punch enemies. Certain bosses drop Titan Blood upon their defeat, which can be used to upgrade weapons, giving them different aspects. One of these for the Twin Fists of Malphon is the Aspect of Gilgamesh.

Getting the Aspect of Gilgamesh in Hades

There are steps that need to be done prior to obtaining the Aspect of Gilgamesh. First is unlocking the weapon the aspect is tied to. The Twin Fists of Malphon is unlocked by spending eight Chthonic Keys.

Next, the player needs to unlock the Fated List of Minor Prophecies, which the House Contractor has. It is an important thing to get early in the game anyway, as there are some nice rewards for completing its objectives. Many of these objectives can easily be achieved through normal gameplay.

Though it may seem odd, to unlock the Aspect of Gilgamesh for the Twin Fists of Malphon, the player must first unlock the Aspect of Guan-Yu for Varatha, the Eternal Spear. This is done by speaking to Achilles after unlocking five other aspects of any of the weapons with Titan Blood, and facing off against the final boss. After a few conversations, Achilles will tell Zagreus the phrase needed to unlock the Aspect of Guan-Yu.

Finally, after completing all of the above steps, the players need to talk to Asterius, the Minotaur. Note this is done in the solo encounter with Asterius, not the dual encounter with Theseus, because Theseus is a thoroughly unhelpful show-stealing, showboating blackguard, and is also the best antagonist because of this.

Anyway, after encountering Asterius enough times, he will unveil the phrase to unlock the Aspect of Gilgamesh. This turns the weapon into the Claws of Enkidu, which has special moves and effects. It might seem strange that Sumerian heroes are referenced in a game based around Greek Mythology, but then again, punching things to death is an unconventional battlefield tactic.
