Though you might think of Disney when you think of animated films, the entertainment company isn't the only one that's putting out giant hits that fall into this category. Universal Pictures has also created several beloved animated films, and many of its movies have characters and legacies that live on today. Because of this, we thought it was time to look at the highest-grossing animated films released under the Universal Pictures label. To do this, we'll be turning to the stats at Box Office Mojo.

It's worth noting that we will only be looking at films' domestic performances. Additionally, while select DreamWorks films have been given the Universal label, they'll be excluded from this list since they already have their own. With the logistics out of the way, it's time to grab some popcorn and prepare for the pictures; Here are the highest-grossing animated films to be released by Universal Pictures.

The Addams Family ($97 million)

Based on the 1991 live-action film of the same name, this animated horror comedy has the spooky Addams family isolating themselves by moving from New York to New Jersey. Thirteen years later, daughter Wednesday wishes to experience the world outside of the residence while son Pugsley prepares for his Mazurka rite of passage.

Though there are troubles inside the mansion, there are even more outside with TV host Margaux Needler realizing that the Addams' home is needed if she is to build a perfect community.

The Secret Life Of Pets 2 ($158 million)

The sequel to The Secret Life of Pets sees Max's and Duke's lives moving forward after their owner, Katie, gets married. She and Chuck have a son, and though the pets are at first wary of him, they eventually grow protective of the child.

The family soon decides to leave the city and go on a road trip, and it's not long before the gang finds themselves embarking on a giant adventure through the countryside and beyond.

The Lorax ($214 million)

Based on the Dr. Seuss children's book of the same name, The Lorax tells of a young boy named Ted who lives in Thnedville, a town without nature. Ted wishes to enchant the girl he has a crush on, and figures out that to do so, he must bring her the thing she wants the most: A Truffula tree. Considering his land's condition, however, this is no easy task.

Ted ends up learning of a forest guardian known as the Lorax. He soon realizes that this creature might be the key to the thing he desires.

Despicable Me ($251 million)

In Despicable Me, the world's greatest supervillain, Gru, plans to complete his biggest heist yet by stealing the moon.

To do so, he enlists the help of his yellow minions as well as that of three little orphan girls. The problem? In becoming part of the plan, the sisters also become his daughters, and fatherhood is something Gru is unprepared to tackle.

Despicable Me 3 ($264 million)

Despicable Me was wildly successful, so its sequels were quick to follow in its footsteps. The third installment in the series sees the minions returning to Gru after being fired by the boss of the Anti-Villain League.

Meanwhile, Gru travels to Freedonia in order to meet his long-lost twin brother. After uniting together, the pair decides to take on former child star Balthazar Bratt who is hoping to unleash havoc on the world.

Sing ($270 million)

Sing tells of a group of anthropomorphic animals who decide to enter a singing competition for a chance at stardom. This new talent show is put on by a koala who hopes to save his failing theater.

The film featured covers of over 60 songs from mainstream artists as well as an ensemble voice cast consisting of Matthew McConaughey, Resse Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton, and Tori Kelly.

The Grinch ($270 million)

Dr. Seuss' The Grinch got a fresh computer-animated remake in 2018. This Christmas comedy film tells of the titular character, who lives alone with his dog, Max, inside of a lonely cave on Mount Crumpet. His solitary existence becomes threatened by the gleeful celebrations of the Whoville residents, however, and the Grinch soon finds that the only way to regain his quiet is to stop the Christmas festivities.

The Grinch soon creates a plot to masquerade as Santa Claus and put an end to the cheer. Despite this, the eternal optimism of the residences soon has him running into the real meaning of Christmas.

Minions ($336 million)

The comedic yellow creatures of the Despicable Me franchise received their own spin-off in 2015. Minions relays the backstory of the titular characters, who continue to search out someone who can act as their master.

After many failures, the gang ends up meeting the world's first super-villainess, Scarlet Overkill. Though the minions at first excited about working under her, they're soon faced with vengeance they're not prepared for.

Despicable Me 2 ($368 million)

The original Despicable Me sequel has Gru setting aside his life of crime to raise his adopted daughters. Though becoming a father has its challenges, his struggles intensify even more after he is contacted by the Anti-Villain League.

Gru is asked to stop a new villain, and he agrees. During the mission, he ends up teaming with a sweet agent named Lucy, and it's not long before the girls' need for a mother starts mingling with his professional life.

The Secret Life Of Pets ($368 million)

Topping off the list as the highest-grossing animated Universal film of all time is The Secret Life of Pets. The original story tells of a terrier named Max who enjoys his pampered New York City apartment life.

This all changes, however, after his owner adopts a shaggy, giant dog who isn't used to his way of living. The pups soon end up on a wild adventure after meeting a revenge-driven rabbit who hopes to get back at the humans who have wronged their pets.
