Set in New Orleans, Unhinged begins with Tom Cooper (Crowe) seeking revenge on his ex-wife and her boyfriend. Meanwhile, a divorcee named Rachel Flynn enjoys some family time with her brother and son, and then gets stuck in a traffic jam. In a moment of frustration, Rachel aggressively honks at another vehicle, which just so happens to be driven by the aforementioned Tom. The man gets angry that he didn't receive a "courtesy tap," and then vows revenge when Rachel refuses to apologize.

Russell Crowe stars as Tom Cooper - officially credited as "Man" - an angry individual who lashes out at Rachel after a New Orleans traffic accident. In pop culture, Crowe is best known for his Oscar-winning performance as Maximus in the 2000 movie Gladiator. He has also earned Academy award nominations for portraying Jeffrey Wigand in The Insider and John Nash in A Beautiful Mind.
