'Seventh Son', 'Underworld 4', Sam Raimi Horror Pic Snag Release Dates

Warner Bros.' 'The Seventh Son' will reach theaters in early 2013. Meanwhile, 'Underworld 4' and the Sam Raimi-produced 'Dibbuk Box' snag new titles and release dates.

Seventh Son Underworld 4 release dates

A trio of supernatural-themed films have secured official release dates - namely, Warner Bros.' The Seventh Son, Screen Gem's Underworld 4, and Lionsgate's (formerly titled) Dibbuk Box.

The fourth Underworld pic now also has a new subtitle, Underworld: Awakening, while the Sam Raimi-produced Dibbuk Box has been redubbed The Possession. Both those titles will hit theaters in January 2012, while Seventh Son won't be out until early 2013.

Underworld: Awakening sees the return of Kate Beckinsale as everyone's favorite female vampire clad in gothic skin-tight latex, Selene. The film follows the blood-sucking warrior gal as she awakens (hence the on-the-nose title) from a long imprisonment, only to discover that humans have discovered the existence of vampires and lycans/werewolves, and are attempting to wipe out both species. J. Michael Straczynski (Thor) scripted the new Underworld movie, which is being directed by Swedish duo Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein.

The Possession is another literally-titled pic that revolves around a young girl named Hannah (Madison Davenport) who is... possessed by an evil spirit, after she picks up an antique box that housed the supernatural entity. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) and Kyra Sedgewick (The Closer) play her divorced parents, who are forced to band together and save their daughter. The pic was co-written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White (Boogeyman, Knowing), the scribes also behind the upcoming Poltergeist remake.

Lastly, The Seventh Son is based on the novel "The Spook's Apprentice" and revolves around the seventh son of a seventh son, young Tom Ward (Ben Barnes), whose is trained in the art of battling supernatural beings by one Master "The Spook" Gregory (Jeff Bridges). Julianne Moore also stars as the wicked sorceress, Mother Malkin, and Alicia Vikander will portray Alice, a relative of M. Makin and love interest for Tom. Charles Leavitt (K-Pax, Blood Diamond) scripted the picture, which will be directed by Sergey Bodrov (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan).

So, to recap: We have the fourth installment in the mindless-but-generally-fun Underworld franchise, a new supernatural thriller along the lines of Insidious, and another book-turned-movie about young people training in the supernatural arts from the studio behind the Harry Potter films. Does any one of them sound like your cup of tea?

The Possession will arrive in theaters on January 6th, 2012.

Underworld: Awakening is set to hit 2D and 3D screens two weeks later on January 20th, 2012.

The Seventh Son hits theaters more than a year later on February 15th, 2013.
