A clip from The Underground Railroad provides a look at Barry Jenkins' upcoming Amazon series. The show is an adaptation of Colson Whitehead's critically acclaimed novel, which released in 2016. The story focuses on two slaves, Cora and Caesar, who seek freedom using the Underground Railroad. However, as the book is an alternate history take on the 19th century, the Underground Railroad is shown partly as an actual railway system, setting the novel apart from others focused on it.

Jenkins' adaptation of The Underground Railroad was announced in 2017 as a limited series. Jenkins wrote and directed the upcoming project, which doesn't have a release date yet. However, The Underground Railroad images released last month revealed a first look at the show, which stars Thuso Mbedu, Aaron Pierre, Chase W. Dillon, Joel Edgerton, and William Jackson Harper. This week, Jenkins shared a teaser for the seriesrevealing a moving look at the show's physical railroad.

The director is one of the most exciting currently working in Hollywood, thanks to his leadership on critically acclaimed films like Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk. Jenkins was also recently announced as the director of Lion King 2, a prequel follow up to Disney's first live-action Lion King movie. Jenkins' impressive credentials nearly guarantee The Underground Railroad will be a success, especially considering the powerful first teaser. Hopefully, a longer look at the show or release date announcement are on the way soon.
