Sony’s PlayStation exclusive lineup for 2016 is well underway with the releases of Amplitude, The Witness, and Gravity Rush Remastered. The previous two years of the PS4’s lifecycle have only seen a handful of exclusives – a far cry from the dozens of exclusives the PlayStation 3 offered. But in 2016, the Japanese electronics manufacturer seems to be getting back to their ways with games like The Last Guardian, Persona 5, and Horizon: Zero Dawn.
PlayStation’s premiere title for 2016 will be Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The sequel to Drake's Deception has already been delayed twice, with a final release date set for April 26. Fans of the franchise will be happy to learn even more Uncharted goodness is set to come out in late April, by way of Sony revealing the Uncharted 4 PS4 bundle launching on the same day.
The limited edition PlayStation 4 features Nathan Drake’s pose from the official cover of the game, a blue color palette, the Uncharted logo, and the famous phrase from the game ‘Sic Parvis Magna’ – translated to ‘greatness from small beginnings’. The bundle also comes with a controller bearing the same gray blue tone, which will be available for purchase separately in early March, and a copy of Uncharted 4 on Blu-ray. Those who pre-order the bundle will also receive a voucher for a weapon and character skin, and Uncharted points for use in the multiplayer mode. Additionally, there will be a PlayStation Gold headset that also features the same gray blue design available outside of the bundle.
As the PlayStation 4 is selling in the tens of millions, many have anticipated that the fourth entry to the mainline Uncharted games will surpass its predecessor’s sales figures of around 6 million units. The game has the potential to sell upwards of 10 million copies if Sony can market it proficiently. More trailers, akin to the 'Man Behind the Treasure' scene, are sure to arrive in the coming weeks as Sony ramp up the hype cycle for their biggest title.
It's interesting to note that Sony is providing a retail copy of the title, to the delight of those who want the Blu-ray as part of their collection, as opposed to the recent trend of bundles that only include a download code for the game they are packed with. And as the game wraps up production, Naughty Dog’s next task will be to focus on the story DLC for the game and then the almost inevitable and frequently mentioned The Last of Us 2. As the studio is banging the drum that this is possibly their last Uncharted game, the future of the series will be in Sony’s hands to either retire or pass along to another studio as Naughty Dog move on with The Last of Us and another new IP.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is set to launch exclusively on PlayStation 4 on April 26.
