Sony's live-action Uncharted, starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, is everything he hoped it would be so far. Hollywood has struggled to make good video game movies in the past, but the so-called "video game movie curse" might be lifted after recent successes in Pokémon Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog. Sony has long hoped that their adaptation of Naughty Dog's hit franchise will be among those that broke through.

The Uncharted movie has been in development hell for a decade but finally moved forward recently thanks to the addition of Tom Holland. He has become one of Hollywood's brightest young stars after breaking out as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man. Mark Wahlberg, who was previously approached to play Drake, is staying aboard the project to play his mentor Sully and a full cast has been assembled. Filming finally began on Uncharted not too long ago, and Holland says that it'll make fans of the game happy.

Holland recently discussed his enthusiasm for how Uncharted is shaping up during an Instagram Live session. The young star went on to discuss his new movie The Devil All The Time, but one fan asked about how filming was going on Uncharted instead. According to Holland, the movie is everything he's dreamed it could be.

"Filming is going so well. The film is like, everything I dreamed it would be. I mean, I don’t know if you guys played the games, but I was such a huge fan of the game, and it’s been going so well."

Even though Holland would never say anything but positive praise on Uncharted's progress, it's still good to hear that it is living up to the quality of the games. For many, the Uncharted games have top-tier stories and gameplay. While the movie is an original story that features a younger Drake than the games, there is still an expectation for it to meet the standard set by the source material. And with a big budget behind it, director Ruben Fleischer should have the resources to deliver some big action set pieces.

In addition to Uncharted meeting Holland's expectations, it is reassuring to know that production is going smoothly. Now that the movie is finally filming, the coronavirus pandemic still presents challenges for it. There have already been several major productions that were shut down due to someone involved testing positive, with The Batman the biggest and most recent example. So far, Uncharted has managed to continue filming for almost a month without any problems. As long as this continues to be the case, then the movie should be able to come out next summer as planned.
