Sony's upcoming Uncharted movie has just been delayed, yet again. The film is based on the popular video game of the same name and is set to be released next year. The story will reportedly be a prequel, taking place prior to the events of the game series. Spider-Man's Tom Holland has been cast in the lead role, playing a younger version of Nathan Drake. The plot will explore how Drake first became close friends with Sully, and Laika CEO, Travis Knight, will be directing the movie.

Over the past twelve years, Uncharted has gone through a lot of problems in development. The film has gone through multiple rewrites, several filming attempts, and nearly seven directors. These are usually signs that a project could be terrible. Video games have had a notoriously spotty record when it comes to movie adaptations. Most either fail to connect with audiences or are not well-reviewed by critics. Uncharted's long, shaky history might not bode well for its chances to be any different from other video game adaptations. However, despite going through what some consider to be production hell, the film has finally been shot and is ready to be seen. It was originally supposed to be released last year in 2020, but due to the pandemic, the release date was pushed to 2021 and then again to 2022.

Unfortunately for those looking forward to this movie, they will now have to wait a week another long week to see it. Sony Pictures has just announced that Uncharted will be moving from its previous date of February 11th, 2022 to February 18th, 2022. This is only a difference of one week, so thankfully, this is not a major change. However, this does beg the question of why the studio would bother to change the release date by only one week.

The answer is most likely Marvel's Thor: Love and ThunderThe fourth Thor film was set to be released on the same day as Uncharted. That film will not only feature the Norse God of thunder but will also see the return of Starlord, Valkyrie, and even Jane Foster played by Natalie Portman. This is one of Marvel's biggest upcoming releases and could be a huge juggernaut at the box office. Sony may have moved its release date by a week to give Thor: Love and Thunder more space, potentially freeing up screens for when Uncharted does come to theaters.

After being in development for over a decade now, Uncharted fans are used to waiting. A one-week delay is nothing compared to 12 years. Thankfully, Holland has teased that Uncharted will have some amazing action sequences, so hopefully, the movie will be worth the wait. Regardless, the film will finally be released next year on February 18th.
