Sony announces Uncharted has officially wrapped, using a reference from the video game. The upcoming movie is based on the massively popular video games developed by Naughty Dog. The series of games follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake, an Indiana Jones-type action hero and supposed descent of historic explorer, Sir Francis Drake, as he travels the world to uncover mythical treasures and lost cities.

A film adaptation has been in the works since 2008, going through multiple changes in its cast, director, storyline, and release date through the years. A leaked script and a lack of cast (or director) caused the film to be delayed multiple times, with Sony removing the film from its release calendar entirely in 2016. In 2017, Tom Holland was cast as a young Nathan Drake, with the movie set as a prequel to the games, focusing on Drake's origin story. Mark Wahlberg, who has been attached to the project since 2010, will play Victor "Sully" Sullivan, Drake's foul-mouthed mentor. Just when Uncharted was all set to start filming in March under Venom director Ruben Fleischer, Sony was forced to delay production again on the first day of filming due to the coronavirus pandemic. Production was back on its feet by July and luckily has not faced any significant setbacks since. Twelve years and seven directors later, filming has finally wrapped on the long-delayed movie.

Sony announced in a tweet Thursday that the Uncharted movie is officially wrapped. The tweet reads, "Greatness from small beginnings. That’s a wrap on [Uncharted movie]," along with a photo of a clapboard with the ring of Sir Francis Drake on a lanyard. The tweet is translated from the Latin phrase "Sic Parvis Magna" in reference to Sir Francis Drake's motto in the video games.

Holland had already wrapped filming last week, sharing a photo of himself and costumer Anthony Drewett on social media. Various images were shared of the set and Holland and Wahlberg's looks, giving fans sneak peeks into how the video games were being brought to life. Holland even got to meet the "real" Nathan Drake, as a photo was posted of Holland with Drake's voice actor Nolan North on set in Germany. The film's cast also includes Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali, and Tati Gabrielle.

After a run of bad luck, Uncharted has finally wrapped filming, and fans will likely get to see more official looks in the coming months. Currently scheduled for release on July 16, 2021, the movie feels more like it is officially happening now that filming has wrapped. With the plot still a mystery, it's exciting to see how the video games will be adapted on the big screen.
