More PlayStation classics have received a new-generation upgrade thanks to the launch of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, and early PS5 reviews for the game are promising. Announced by PlayStation in 2021, many were disappointed to hear the relatively-new games would be getting enhanced, while others were excited to once again delve into a classic PlayStation franchise on the latest hardware. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves comes to PC at an unspecified point this year, but the game launches on PS5 on January 28.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection includes both 2016's Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and 2017's standalone spin-off, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The collection features a range of enhancements for the games, including improved graphics, Fidelity and Performance modes, faster load times, and haptic feedback through the DualSense controller. Those who already own Uncharted 4, The Lost Legacy, or the Digital Bundle containing both games, can upgrade to the Legacy of Thieves Collection for $10, though the new release is also available for separate purchase. It's been confirmed that Uncharted save data and Trophies can transfer to PS5.

Early reviews for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection suggest that the game might be a must-buy for any PS5 owner. Receiving high scores across the board, the collection has been praised for its smooth framerate, impressive visuals - and for those unfamiliar with the games - immersive stories. At the time of writing, the new release has earned a Metacritic critics' score of 87, sitting part-way between Uncharted 4's original score of 93, and Lost Legacy's original 84.

Jacob Zeranko - 5/5 - Screen Rant

"With the Uncharted movie bringing more attention to the already beloved series, it's a great time to explore what the world of Nathan Drake, Chloe Frazer, and Nadine Ross has to offer. Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection is authentic, exciting, and well worth exploring, neatly tying together the series past and potential future in the best version of both to date."

Jade King - 4.5/5 - TheGamer

"The Legacy of Thieves Collection compiles the two finest games in the Uncharted series while making them look and feel better than ever before. Yet they already pushed boundaries that are yet to be usurped, meaning existing owners of this game need to shell out for a relatively minimal upgrade without too much to offer. I still think it’s more than worthwhile just to relive these adventures once again, but part of me wishes a little more effort was placed into bringing them to life for a new generation."

Dalton Cooper - 5/5 - Game Rant

"Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection is a fantastic collection that greatly enhances two top-tier games. The lack of multiplayer is disappointing, but it's hardly a deal-breaker. And after seeing how great Uncharted looks and plays on PS5, fans will be clamoring for a proper Uncharted sequel built for the ground-up for the platform."

Jordan Middler - 5/5 - Video Games Chronicle

"Both Uncharted 4 and Uncharted Lost Legacy are still fantastic games that deserve a second playthrough on PlayStation 5. Naughty Dog’s first outing on the PlayStation 5 is an incredibly strong one, and only makes even more excited for what it has coming next, and what they’ll be able to do with this technology."

John-Paul Jones - 9.5/10 - PlayStation Universe

"Whether you’re experiencing these stunning games for the first time or are returning for another playthrough, emboldened by the technical facelift that the PlayStation 5 provides, Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection brings together two absolute banner PlayStation exclusives into a delectable and unmissable package that serves as a timely reminder that Nathan Drake and company have been long missed. Uncharted 5 when, Sony?"

Fans of the series are unlikely to be surprised by the glowing reviews for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. With two critically-acclaimed Naughty Dog titles in the package, it's hard to imagine anything other than largely positive reception. Despite this, the reviews demonstrate the release isn't perfect, with a lack of Uncharted multiplayer being an issue, while other comments suggest that haptic feedback could have been better implemented for a more natural experience.

Impressing reviewers with its various improvements and enhancements, and offering up the first PS5 Nathan Drake experience, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is set to be another success for PlayStation when it launches later this week. While there's not yet been confirmation of the game's PC release date, it's looking like an unmissable experience on PS5, whether experiencing the adventures for the first time, or revisiting them on the latest hardware. Those who haven't explored a Drake story should be in for a treat, with PS5 enhancements for cinematic moments, like Uncharted 4's most famous chase sequence, set to be showstopping.
