The ending of Sony's Uncharted, and specifically the second post-credits scene, fixes the biggest mistake with Mark Wahlberg's Sully. Victor Sullivan, or Sully as he is more commonly known, is Nathan Drake's (Tom Holland) fellow treasure hunter and sometimes mentor. Being one of the original characters that appeared in the first game, Sully is one of the most important characters of the Uncharted franchise. He has played a significant role in every mainline Uncharted game, and his cool personality immediately made him fan-favorite among players.

When the first Uncharted trailer dropped, however, there was an outcry at the way the movie seemed to take so many creative liberties with his character. Wahlberg's Sully was missing many of the character's most prominent characteristics, which led to backlash from fans of the games. There are a few aspects of Sully's character that define him, such as his famous mustache, his cigar smoking, his loud personality, and his witty sense of humor. Unfortunately, most of these aspects were absent in the film. Wahlberg's Sully spoke calmly, cracked very few jokes that often fell flat, did not smoke a single cigar, and most importantly, Wahlberg's Victor Sullivan did not have a mustache.

However, the second post-credits scene of the film, which saw Sully barge in on a deal involving Nate that was quickly going sour, fixed many of those issues. As soon as Sully charges through the door, Holland's Drake comments on his mustache, which Sully finally grew, and Sully's humorous response finally feels like the character fans know from the games. His witty retort to the young Drake's sarcastic remark–"Puberty's right around the corner kid."–is much more reminiscent of the relationship the two characters share in the source material. Furthermore, Drake tossing Sully a cigar while leaving hints that either Sully's cigar smoking was not shown in the film, or that he picked up the habit after the events of the movie. Regardless, it sets up Wahlberg's Sully to become more akin to his video game counterpart in the potential sequel.

Sully mustache post credits scene uncharted

While Wahlberg's Sully was not as faithful of an adaptation as fans of the games wanted him to be, the Uncharted post-credits scene marginally redeemed his portrayal. All these changes to his character hint that the Sully audiences will see in Uncharted 2, if it ever happens, will be a more faithful representation of the character. The film's poor portrayal of Sully did not help it with its bad reception, but if the post-credits scenes are anything to go by, then the sequel to PlayStation Productions' Uncharted is bound to be a better film.

Sony would be wise to make a few other changes to a potential Uncharted 2; the sequel should be closer to the games in other ways. Uncharted has gotten mixed-to-negative reviews, with most of the criticism aimed at the movie's generic action plot and lack of anything new. Sony tried to water down the movie adaptation for as broad and general an audience as possible, but in doing so, lost much of the charm that makes the games so beloved. It's unclear whether or not there will be a sequel. That will depend on Uncharted's box office success or failure. If there is an Uncharted sequel, giving Sully a mustache should be the least of its changes.
