Uncharted 4: A Thief's End contains a multiplayer mode that pulls elements from the story mode. This guide will help players enter the games multiplayer mode with helpful tips and tricks. Uncharted 4 is planned for April's PlayStation Plus game of the month. This may be the first time players try out the series since the game will be completely free for players with a subscription. The Uncharted series has been regarded as one of the best action-adventure games to release during the PlayStation 3 era. The series stars treasure hunter, Nathan Drake, as he travels around the globe, discovering hidden fortunes and clues to infinite wealth. Although, with every title, all the treasure Nathan searches for always slips through his hand at the last moment. The final entry of his saga released on the PlayStation 4 with Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. In this entry, Nathan has retired his treasure hunting ways for a more traditional life with his wife, Elena. Nathan begins to miss his life as a world traveler when suddenly, his brother, who he presumed was dead, asks for his help to find an ancient treasure to help pay the debt he owes for his life. Many elements from the story, including plenty of the supernatural elements, carries over to its multiplayer mode. Here are some helpful tricks for first-time players of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End's multiplayer mode.

The multiplayer mode has been a secondary feature of the series since Uncharted 2 back on the PlayStation 3. The multiplayer mode functions like many other shooter multiplayer modes, with a variety of game modes to select from including team deathmatch, domination, and more. The multiplayer mode was also promoted heavily for not including paid DLC or pay-to-win business models. During the era of when Uncharted 4 was originally released, the conversation about the ethical nature of paid DLC was rampant and is still a conversation happening today. So when it was announced that the multiplayer mode would be completely free and updates in the future wouldn't cost a dime, it was happily received. The game has been released for a few years now so the servers have been relatively empty this year, but with the release of the game coming to PlayStation Plus, most likely many new and old players will enter the servers, bringing life back into the game. Here are some helpful tips in jumping into the world of Uncharted 4's multiplayer.

Using Mysticals in Uncharted 4 A Thiefs End Multiplayer

Mysticals are special items that allow the player to use more supernatural elements in the game. This is pulled from the story of the game where players are typically cursed for touching an ancient treasure. In multiplayer, these are used as weapons that have a wide variety of perks. When playing a game, players accumulate money by getting kills or finding it on the ground. Players can then purchase Mysticals in combat to help them turn the tides of battle. Think of these are killstreaks from the Call of Duty franchise, but instead of getting them by stacking kills, the player needs to purchase them. There are 5 different types of Mysticals players begin with and as they level up, more will become unlocked.

  • Wrath of El Dorado: When thrown, the El Dorado sarcophagus from Uncharted 1 appears to unleash spirits that track down the enemies near where it is placed, and damage them. Use this for chip damage against enemies.
  • Spirit of Djinn: The Djinn magic from Uncharted 3 imbues the player with the ability to teleport short distances, but they won’t be able to take cover. Use this to quickly make exits from tricky situations.
  • Cintamani Stone: Activating this mystical from Uncharted 2 revives Downed allies within its area of effect instantly. Use this to help cover enemies while they are being revived.
  • Staff of Ayar Manco: This staff, from the Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth novel, casts a magical force across an entire map revealing where the opposing team is located. It will also show up on the mini-map and can be destroyed.
  • Indra’s Eternity: From the Uncharted: Eye of Indra motion comic, this Mystical slows down any enemy that enters its visible area of effect.

Assess the situation and use the proper Mystical during combat.

Using Sidekicks in Uncharted 4 A Thief's End Multiplayer

Sidekicks spawn NPC characters that will help the player. They function in their own regard and can be useful for taking down several enemies at once. Summon these are often as possible, as they can be murdered and also used as a distraction for enemy players. These are the four different types of Sidekicks.

  • Sniper – Defends a location with a sniper rifle to take out members of the opposing team. Use this as a distraction and sneak behind enemy lines.
  • Saviour – Field medic who will revive Downed players, hand out ammo and help your team replenish their Gear faster. Use this when supplies are running low. Only summons these far away from combat to avoid being punished.
  • Hunter – When called in, hunts down the nearest enemy and puts them into a hold for the player to KO them. Stay near the Hunter and use them as a bullet sponge.
  • Brute – Heavily armored with a lot of firepower but slow-moving. Another distraction character. Enemies will focus fire on them. Use this as an opportunity to strike.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End's multiplayer does an excellent job of bringing the lore and using it as weaponry. Typically in the main story, these Mystical items are sought out by players as the main objective of the game but in the multiplayer, they are used all willy-nilly, regardless of how ancient and cursed they are. The multiplayer mode allows plenty of customization for the player as well. With the developer showing plenty of post-release support, there is an abundance to do when the game comes for free on PlayStation place this upcoming April. Uncharted 4 was a satisfying ending to the Nathan Drake saga and it is unknown is Naughty Dog will revisit this franchise in the future.
