It was the sleeper hit of 2015, but it proved the viability of Netflix’s original programming schemes. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the Tina Fey (30 Rock) produced comedy, was resurrected from oblivion after NBC dropped the series midway during the production of season one. It was a gamble no one much believed in at the time, especially considering that Netflix wasn’t known as a place for original sitcoms. But, as was eventually proven, it doesn’t pay to bet against the streaming service or they eye for quality original programming.

Even now, it’s hard to buy that a show with Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s premise would have resonated with audiences, but thanks to Ellie Kemper’s (The Office) charm, the series won over audiences and critics alike. Through two seasons, we’ve been introduced to a wide assortment of absurd-yet-real characters such as Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) as Jacqueline and Tituss Burgess (Catfight) as Titus Andromedon. In many ways, it’s the supporting cast that makes Kimmy Schmidt such a delightful series, especially Titus Andromedon, consistently one of the funniest characters. It’s only right, then, that he take center stage in the first teaser for season three.

Released by Netflix earlier today, the first trailer for the upcoming third season finds Titus channeling his inner Bey in a Lemonade themed showcase of his fabulousness. While light on plot developments the trailer does promise more musical hijinks from Kimmy’s raucous roomie, which in earlier seasons become some of the most memorable moments of the series (admit it, you had Pinot Noir in your head for weeks).

This kind if irreverent, pop-culture skewering humor is part of what made Kimmy Schmidt so surprisingly hilarious in its first two seasons, and it’s good to see them doubling down as they head into season three. It also comes on the heels of Queen Bey losing out on Album of the Year at last night’s Grammy Awards, which probably isn’t much of a consolation prize but it’s nice to get recognition.

Still, the question remains as to where Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is going to take us in the third season. Last year saw Kimmy reconciling with her emotionally stunted mother, played by Lisa Kudrow (Friends), in addition to the closing moments bomb that Kimmy and her former kidnapper, Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm, Mad Men) were married. What could all of this mean for the new season?

Unfortunately, we’ve got no answers just yet. However, there’s plenty of time for more tidbits to be revealed. The new season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt doesn’t premiere until May, and there are sure to be other trailers released between now and then, some of which might reveal more about just what Kimmy is up against this time around. We’ll keep our eyes open for more news and will update you as it develops.
