The Umbrella Academy was full of foreshadowing and Easter eggs, and one of these was hiding in one of the rooms at the Hargreeves mansion, revealing Five’s future with Dolores, his mannequin/girlfriend. Netflix brought a new type of superheroes with The Umbrella Academy, a TV series based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. It follows the dysfunctional family of adopted siblings, the Hargreeves. All of them were born on the same day and under the same mysterious circumstances, and were adopted by billionaire Reginald Hargreeves. As all of the kids have superpowers, Reginald trained them and formed a team called “the Umbrella Academy”.

All of the kids were referred to by numbers by Reginald, but their robot nanny/mother, Grace, gave them actual names – except for Number Five (Aidan Gallagher). Five has the ability to jump through time and space, and disappeared when they were 13 after he jumped to the future and couldn’t come back. Five eventually found the way to go back, but a miscalculation reverted him to his 13 year-old body, even though his siblings were already 30. Five spent four decades in the post-apocalyptic future, but he wasn’t alone... Kind of.

Five confessed to his siblings that he was in a relationship for 30 years, but his girlfriend was actually a mannequin he named Dolores. She was his only companion in what was left of the world, and he even found her when he went back in time. But as it turns out, Five’s bond with Dolores was hidden in plain sight.

The Umbrella Academy Easter Egg That Revealed Five’s Future

The Umbrella Academy Easter egg wallpaper Five Dolores

An eagle-eyed fan pointed out a very interesting and subtle detail on the wallpaper in one of the rooms at the Hargreeves mansion. In it, there’s a drawing of a boy pulling a red wagon with a mannequin in it. This mirrors a scene in the series where Five, in the post-apocalyptic future, finds Dolores in the rubble and places her in a red wagon, then proceeds to keep walking. Five was too attached to Dolores – as seen when he breaks into a store to take her and when he gets drunk in a library with her – and with good reason, as they were literally alone in the world.

This detail is no coincidence – Aidan Gallagher confirmed on Twitter that there are hidden clues like this one all over the place, so there are many more out there that haven’t been discovered yet. If the wallpaper choice has a deeper in-universe meaning (as in: it was intentionally placed by Reginald because he knew what was going to happen, or maybe Grace knew about it as well) or not is unknown, but it’s always fun when the production crew of a TV series takes the time to pay attention to even the smallest details. Now it’s just a matter of time for other Easter eggs in The Umbrella Academy to come to light.
