A new photo of the Sparrows in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy teases their team uniforms. The Sparrows were introduced in season 2's finale when the members of the Umbrella Academy returned to the present from the 1960s and discovered that their actions had rippling consequences, changing the timeline once again. In this timeline, however, Ben Hargreeves, the member who passed away in the original timeline and can only be seen as a ghost by Klaus, is alive and a member of the Sparrow Academy. The cast of the Sparrows was just officially announced before the third season goes into production.
The first season of The Umbrella Academy was released in 2019 to much fanfare and has been considered one of the streaming platform’s best shows, even if there has been a lot of changes from the comic book to the adaptation. Season 1 follows the original team (Vanya, Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Five, and ghost Ben) as they attempt to solve the murder of their adoptive father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, and also stop an imminent apocalypse. In the season 2, after not being able to stop the apocalypse, the team finds themselves all scattered throughout different years in Dallas during the 1960s and having to stop another doomsday.
Actor Justin Min, who plays Ben, posted a photo on his Twitter teasing the new Sparrow cast in their uniforms. The uniforms are dark blue tracksuits with white racing stripes going down the shoulders and arms and a sparrow emblem on the chest. It makes them look like a more cohesive, professional team that probably has more athleticism and teamwork than their original timeline counterparts. Check out the uniforms below:
The Umbrella Academy’s uniforms are quite literally school uniforms and make the members seem less like family, even if they do view each other to be, and it also makes them seem like students at a private school, which they sort of are. The announcement of The Umbrella Academy season 3’s first episode title helps to confirm that the Sparrows are more family-oriented, standing around in a mobster-like fashion when the two teams first collide. And let’s be honest, the Sparrows come off as a little more stylish and put together than the Umbrellas, who outside of Allison, dress in whatever they want, whenever they want.
It has been theorized that the Sparrows are extremely different than the original family, with theories pointing that this is due to the absence of the robot mother Grace who raised them. With how unwelcoming the new family is and how bleak and reserved the Academy looks in the new timeline, having a streamlined and dark uniform makes sense for the Sparrow team. The Umbrella Academy’s season 3 begins filming in February.
