Is the Sparrow Academy more powerful than the Umbrella Academy in season 3? The Umbrella Academy were once a crime-fighting team who used their powers for good. As they grew into adulthood, however, their powers became less central to their daily activities, though they still used them quite often. In The Umbrella Academy season 3, the titular characters face an entirely new challenge with the Sparrow Academy precisely because they have never been up against rivals who also have a unique set of abilities.
Since the Sparrows have seven members as well, they seem primed to face off against the Umbrella Academy in season 3 based on their powers, but they might find the original team is hard to beat. The Sparrow Academy indeed has the skills and powers to best the Umbrella Academy. To start, the former is still a united team in adulthood, which likely means they’ve been working together for years longer than the Umbrella Academy, whose members split up years prior and only reunited because Reginald died in the original timeline. Marcus Hargreeves is super strong and his stance and abilities shown thus far in The Umbrella Academy trailers suggest he could beat Luther in a fight. Fei is able to manifest crows to attack people, which seems rather dangerous and deadly.
While the Sparrows could certainly win in a fight against the Umbrella Academy, none of the Sparrows seem like a match for them as a collective because they have Viktor (who transitions in The Umbrella Academy season 3), whose powers can literally end the world. For that reason alone, the Sparrow Academy ultimately don’t have a fighting chance against their alternates. Sloane’s abilities don’t seem as powerful as her siblings, but sister Jayme looks a bit more dangerous. She might not say a lot, but that’s probably because she can make life a living hell for the Umbrella Academy. Alphonso’s ability to inflict physical pain on others sounds similar to Allison’s powers, although the latter can do so with her famous, “I heard a rumor…” phrase rather than through physical force and alter their reality because of it. Christopher, the telekinetic cube, can instill fear in people’s minds, which can stop assailants in their tracks. Ben’s abilities are already known to the Umbrella Academy, so it’s possible they already have ways of preventing his attacks.
Together, the Sparrow Academy certainly seems formidable and they have the abilities and skills to prove it. It’s possible they’re a lot more disciplined and trained, whereas the Umbrella Academy is all over the place when it comes to teamwork and agreeing on anything. Physically, the Umbrella Academy has met their match, but it could be that the siblings can still outsmart the Sparrows, who seem to use more brute force than anything else. In the comics, the Sparrow Academy swoops in to save the day at the end of Hotel Oblivion, coming in hot and looking a lot deadlier than the main characters. They look like they're very much upgraded models of the Umbrella Academy, but their powers, like in the Netflix series, are not entirely dissimilar to original seven.
If each team works as a unit against the others, the Umbrellas may struggle for a bit thanks to the Sparrow’s abilities, but that doesn’t mean they’re more powerful. The original Hargreeves siblings may be at odds with each other more often than not, but they always find a way to succeed in the end. The Sparrows are more of a mirror to the Umbrella Academy; their powers might be intense at times and they can certainly cause a lot of damage. However, the Umbrella Academy — especially if they work together and utilize Viktor’s abilities — would likely come out on top in the end.
