Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy could increase the powers of the Hargreeves siblings. Based on the comic of the same name, Netflix's live-action Umbrella Academy series launched in 2019 and offered a unique take on the superhero genre. The first season was well-received and resulted in the show being renewed for season 2, which just dropped on the streaming service.

After the Hargreeves siblings failed to prevent the apocalypse in season 1, the second season once again put them in the crosshairs of a world-ending event. The siblings traveled back to the 1960s, and their presence set off a chain of events that would lead to a nuclear war that would destroy the planet. Season 2 was full of surprises as the plot played out, but it also included the evolution of some of the Hargreeves' powers. Ben learned how to posses Klaus, Diego showcased greater telekinetic abilities, and Five started to get his time traveling skills under control. Even with these upgrades, season 3 could increase the Umbrella Academy's powers further.

During an interview with The Wrap, showrunner Steve Blackman tease that the third season of The Umbrella Academy could show the Hargreeves siblings' powers grow. They were trained by Reginald Hargreeves at a young age, but their training stopped following the death of Ben. According to Blackman, the next season of the show could see the Hargreeves' children finally resume training and learn that they are more powerful when together.

"They’re all sort of growing up. like to think as we go forward that their powers are also evolving. They’re learning new things. They were trained until they were 14 or 15 by a very dysfunctional dad but then the family blew apart before they could finish their training. … They might even discover in the future that their powers are stronger when they’re together."

Even Umbrella Academy's Cast Didn't Know About Season 2's Cliffhanger Ending

The evolution of the Hargreeves' powers is a natural next step for The Umbrella Academy to take, and Blackman's tease of what could come is quite interesting. However, Netflix hasn't renewed for a third season, so it has yet to be confirmed that Blackman will get the chance to continue the story. If he does, then it sounds like he has a strong sense of where he wants to take the story, especially after the final twist of season 2, and the increase of the Hargreeves siblings' powers could work well with it.

Since most superhero stories see the powers of the heroes grow over time in some regard, the possibility that this will happen in The Umbrella Academy's third season isn't too shocking. However, the final tease by Blackman that the siblings could be stronger together is noteworthy. He could mean it in a figurative sense where their collective powers are greater together than apart, but it is possible they are literally more powerful when they're together. Their mysterious births could connect them in such a way where their powers are amplified when they're together. When the whole group has been together in the past, the power levels have been high already, so its possible Blackman has already set this up. Depending on how this tease plays out, perhaps the siblings could even unlock new powers between them. And, now that Lila is part of the mix too, it will be fun to see what The Umbrella Academy does with all of their powers in season 3.
