The Umbrella Academy showrunner sets a new video to commemorate the end of production on season 3. Netflix's hit adaptation of Gerard Way's comic book series of the same name tells the tale of the superpowered Hargreeves siblings as they reunite to uncover the truth about their father's mysterious death, and at the same time, attempt to prevent the world from an inevitable apocalypse. Led by Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Cameron Britton, and Mary J. Blige, The Umbrella Academy has been a streaming success for Netflix, with its second season becoming the sixth most-watched show of 2020. Due to the success of the series, The Umbrealla Academy season 3 was ordered in November 2020.

After the multiple bombshells season 2 dropped on viewers, anticipation for season 3 has been generally high. Filming on the show began earlier this year, and since then, fans have been anxious for any hints about the storyline pertaining to the Sparrow Academy and the repercussions of the Hargreeves' interference with the timeline. Yet so far, there haven't been any solid details related to the third season, although The Umbrella Academy stars have teased some updates related to the status of the show's production over the months. Just last week, Page confirmed that filming on The Umbrella Academy season 3 was nearing its end, and now it appears that the cast has made it past the finish line.

The Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman posted a video to Instagram confirming that production on season 3 has wrapped up. The footage features the show's actors expressing their elation on completing the show, with Page specifically mentioning that he is"stoked" because he "can't wait" for fans to watch the new season. There aren't really any Easter eggs in the clip, although it does include appearances from Justin H. Min and Colm Feore, whose characters, Ben and Reginald, has their deaths undone in The Umbrella Academy season 2 finale.

After the events of season 2, The Umbrella Academy season 3 will take place in an alternate timeline. It's not abundantly clear how things will pan out, but the third season will kick off with a tense and sentimental encounter between The Umbrella Academy and their Sparrow counterparts. This has also been teased in The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode titles, which Netflix unveiled in June. The titles are generally ambiguous and difficult to decipher, although some aficionados have been able to make some sense out of them, indicating that season 3 will return to its source material's sci-fi roots of time-travel, apocalypse, and alien beings. There will also possibly be a wedding and one character might bid an emotional goodbye, but the details for those plot lines are decidedly slim.

What's next in store for the Hargreeves siblings is probably something fans won't know until season 3 premieres. Over the years, The Umbrella Academy has managed to remain coy about plot details for forthcoming seasons, so there is no reason to believe that this wouldn't be the case this time around as well.  Still, fans might learn a thing or more about season 3 when the promotional campaign, including teasers and trailers, begin rolling out. And that should be soon, considering that filming has already ended. As for the release date, we can expect it to be set sometime early next year as the show now needs to spend time in post-production to get its top-notch VFX and visuals right.
