Netflix released the episode titles for The Umbrella Academy season 3, teasing the proper introduction of the Sparrow Academy. The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix original series based on the comic book of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. The show quickly became one of Netflix's top series, propelling viewers through the world-saving mission of the dysfunctional, super-powered Hargreeves siblings.
The Umbrella Academy was renewed for a third season, with filming beginning earlier this year. Anticipation for Season 3 is high, considering the multiple bombshells that season 2 dropped on viewers. Of course, the biggest surprise was when timeline changes resulted in the undoing of the deaths of Sir Reginald Hagreeves and Ben. When the Hargreeves return to the present day from the 1960s, they find the two very much alive in an alternate timeline where Reginald creates The Sparrow Academy instead of The Umbrella Academy.
As part of their Geeked Week, Netflix released the episode titles for The Umbrella Academy season 3, teasing the Sparrow Academy's introduction. The first episode is titled "Meet The Family," which will introduce the new Hargreeves family only briefly glimpsed in season 2. Aside from adequately introducing the Sparrow Academy and sparrow Ben, the other episode titles also reveal a bit of what to expect in season 3. One episode will be titled "Kugelblitz," which is the name given to a black hole created from radiation. A black hole seems to fall in line with the series' science fiction roots of time travel, apocalyptic events, and alien beings. "Auf Wiedersehen" is another episode title and means 'goodbye' in German, although who is being bid goodbye is still a mystery. Meanwhile, "Wedding at the End of the World" brings back the recurring theme of an imminent apocalypse and the Hargreeves' repeated attempts to stop it. The remaining titles are obscure and difficult to decipher without context. However, the final episode title of "Oblivion" does have a foreboding tone to it, suggesting season 3 may not end on a happy note.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 seems to be getting off on the right foot to measure up to its stellar first two seasons. The Sparrow Academy will, naturally, play a significant role in the series. Plus, the series still needs to address Sir Reginald Hargreeves' secret alien identity, the continuation of Lila Pitts' story, and the other 36 children born with special powers. Thus far, the episode titles leave hints of an eventful Sparrow introduction, another apocalypse, the integration of more science fiction concepts, and maybe even some heartbreaking good-byes. Season 3 promises to be intense, emotional, and full of surprises as the Hargreeves face their biggest match yet, all while navigating family secrets, dysfunction, and apocalypses.
