The Umbrella Academy is full of Easter eggs and small details, and fans have pointed out the appearance of a particular extra in scenes from different time periods – could she be hinting at something major? Based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy was released on Netflix in February 2019 and became a big success. A few months later, the series was renewed for a second season.

The Umbrella Academy follows the dysfunctional family of adopted siblings, the Hargreeves. All seven of them were born on the same day, under the same mysterious circumstances (none of their mothers were pregnant when the day began). Not long after, they were adopted by the equally mysterious Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who after discovering that they each had a unique set of superpowers, trained them and formed the “Umbrella Academy”. Reginald wasn’t the best father figure, and the siblings eventually went on their own ways, reuniting years later after Reginald’s death and with the apocalypse fast approaching.

The series also included time-travel, which is the specialty of one of the siblings, and went back and forth with flashbacks in order to better explain what the kids had gone through. Now, eagle-eyed fans have notice that many of these settings have one thing in common: a woman, who has appeared in events of the past and present with different looks, and she’s always near the Hargreeves.

Umbrella Academy Theory: The Mystery Extra Works For The Commission

The Umbrella Academy extra time traveling lady

Among the many things The Umbrella Academy introduced viewers to was The Commission, an organization that oversees and manages space-time continuum, making sure that all events happen as they’re supposed to. The Commission has agents ready to travel through time and eliminate anyone who represents a threat to their job. Now, back to the mystery woman, fans noticed that she appears in at least four episodes: episode 1, during the bank robbery; episode 4, on the bus, sitting opposite Klaus; episode 7, at the rave Luther and Klaus are at; and episode 10, at the bowling alley with her son. There wouldn’t be anything extraordinary on that if the bank robbery scene wasn’t a flashback, in which viewers saw the Umbrella Academy squad in action when they were still very young.

In addition to that, she didn’t have the reaction you would expect when Klaus suddenly disappeared on the bus (when he accidentally traveled back to the 1960s). Taking all that into account, fans have theorized that she’s one of The Commission’s agents, and her mission is to keep a close eye on the Hargreeves and report back any anomalies, more so because The Handler (Kate Walsh) mentioned at some point that they do have field agents here and there. In that case, and given that the Hargreeves traveled through time at the end of season 1 to save themselves from the apocalypse, this woman could play a very important role in season 2, as she has been following their steps since they were very young. Whether the siblings travel to the past or the future in The Umbrella Academy season 2, they will still have many threats to deal with, and most of them will come from The Commission.
