The official synopsis for The Umbrella Academy season 2 finally reveals what happened to the Hargreeves siblings after the apocalyptic cliffhanger. For well over a year now, fans have been waiting to find out what happened to the main characters of Netflix's hit comic book series. The first season of The Umbrella Academy dropped in February 2019 and instantly became another success for the streamer. The quirky series follows the adopted Hargreeves siblings, who were all born with mysterious powers on the same dayThe Umbrella Academy picked up with their reunion following their adopted father's death, as well as the return of time traveling sibling Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), who warned the others of the impending apocalypse.

That apocalypse finally hit in The Umbrella Academy's season 1 finale, though the Hargreeves siblings were able to escape thanks to Five's powers. The biggest question left in the aftermath of the cliffhanger was, where did they go? It seemed likely that all the siblings were scattered through time, especially when the first promotional materials for the season asked when are the Hargreeves'. Fans have been desperate for any additional information since then, and while there still hasn't been a trailer, Netflix did confirm The Umbrella Academy season 2 will premiere on July 31.

A month and a half before the season premiere, Netflix has unveiled the first synopsis for The Umbrella Academy's second season. Not only does it finally answer the question of where and when all the siblings are, it also teases the newest threats they will have to contend with. And it's definitely threats plural, because it sounds like they have a lot on their plates. The synopsis is as follows:

Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right - the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which - spoiler alert! - turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.

The Umbrella Academy season 2 what the posters reveal

Going into The Umbrella Academy season 2, the most intriguing thing might be seeing where each character has ended up. Aside from Five being the last to appear in the 1960s, it isn't clear exactly which siblings have spent the most time in the past. Based on an earlier tease shared by showrunner Steve Blackman, Diego (David Castañeda) has likely been there for some time and might have been among those to build new lives. This will pose an interesting conflict for the group, as some will probably be reluctant to get back into the action.

With posters, a release date, and a synopsis now officially released, a trailer will surely be on the way soon. Netflix typically holds their trailers until closer to the release dates, so things still seem to be moving on its usual timeline. Fans can probably expect a trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 2 by the end of this month. Then, luckily, it won't be long before the season itself drops on Netflix. The wait is almost over, and now at least some questions have been answered to help tide fans over.
