New character posters for The Umbrella Academy season 2 are here, and they present an intriguing mystery. It's been over a year since the first batch of episodes for The Umbrella Academy premiered on Netflix, and since then, fans have been eager for updates about what's to come. Based on the graphic novel created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy was one of the breakout streaming hits of 2019. It followed the adopted Hargreeves siblings, all of whom were born on the same day and gifted with mysterious powers. The show kicked off with their reunion following their father Reginald's (Colm Feore) death, though things quickly got weirder when one sibling, the time-traveling Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), returned from the past to warn those in the present of the impending apocalypse.
That apocalypse caught up to the Hargreeves siblings at the end of The Umbrella Academy season 1 finale, and season 2 is expected to pick up right where it left off. The biggest question facing season 2 is what happened to the siblings? They were last seen using Five's abilities to escape the apocalypse, but it's not clear exactly where they went. Additionally, early promotional materials for The Umbrella Academy season 2 featured these ominous words: When are the Hargreeves siblings? Clearly, time is another element fans have to be wary of.
With season 2 of The Umbrella Academy premiering on July 31, Netflix has released brand new character posters. You can see them for yourself in the space below.
At first glance, the posters don't seem to reveal much. In fact, they don't even show the Hargreeves' full faces. However, what's most intriguing is the order they were released. All of the Hargreeves siblings have numerical nicknames. For example, Luther (Tom Hooper) is One, Diego (David Castaneda) is Two, etc. Yet, when the official Umbrella Academy social media account shared the photos, they presented the siblings out of order. This is how they were arranged: Ben/Six (Justin H. Min), Klaus/Four (Robert Sheehan), Allison/Three (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Luther/One, Diego/Two, Vanya/Seven (Ellen Page), and, finally, Number Five.
This seems to further support fans' theories that the Hargreeves siblings have gotten lost in time following their escape with the aid of Five's abilities. Perhaps the order of the posters corresponds to which characters will be found first? Or it could simply just indicate that the siblings have gotten jumbled up in time. Another thing to note is the blood on Five's face; none of his other siblings have blood on them, and none of them are grinning the way he is. Is Five up to something, somehow? Or has he found himself in some kind of trouble? There are so many questions surrounding The Umbrella Academy season 2, and the wait for answers is surely killing fans. Luckily, they won't have to wait too much longer.
