The Hargreeves are coming back in The Umbrella Academy season 2, and here’s when you can start watching it on Netflix. Based on the comic book series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy made its debut in February 2019 and was an instant hit, surpassing one of the streaming giant’s most popular titles. A few weeks later, the series was renewed for a second season, which will arrive on July 31.

The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves, a dysfunctional family of seven adopted siblings who have exceptional abilities. They, along with other 36 babies, were born on the same day, at the same time, and none of their mothers was pregnant when the day began. This curious event caught the attention of eccentric billionaire and scientist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who set out to adopt as many of those kids as he could and only got seven. As each kid began to develop unique superpowers, Reginald trained them and formed the superhero team “the Umbrella Academy” – but such education had terrible consequences on the siblings, who ended up parting ways, and reunited years later for Reginald’s funeral and to stop the fast-approaching apocalypse.

The Umbrella Academy season 1 ended with the Hargreeves jumping to another place and time to save themselves from the end of the world, and season 2 will catch up with them in Dallas, Texas, though in different years between 1960 and 1963. Fans of the series who can’t wait to reunite with the Hargreeves and see what they will be up to can start watching The Umbrella Academy season 2 on Netflix at midnight PT/3am ET on Friday, July 31. As this is a Netflix original series, subscribers won’t have to worry over geographic restrictions, as all episodes will be available worldwide.

The Umbrella Academy season 2 what the posters reveal

Season 1 of the Umbrella Academy was based on the comic book Apocalypse Suite, which saw the Hargreeves doing their best to stop Vanya, the sister they thought was powerless, from destroying the planet. Of course, the series took a lot of creative liberties when adapting the story, so there are big changes from the comics, but the premise is pretty much the same. Season 2 is based on the second volume of The Umbrella Academy comic book series, Dallas, in which the siblings find themselves in the city in 1963, on the days of John F. Kennedy’s visit.

The Umbrella Academy season 2 will see characters that those familiar with the comics will recognize, but also new characters like Lila and the Swedes, who will play a big part in the Hargreeves’ new mission to stop the apocalypse – again. As seen in the trailer, the Hargreeves will reunite with Reginald in the 1960s, which might answer some of the biggest questions fans have about the series.
