The Umbrella Academy keeps preparing for the release of its second season, and among the many things it has shared about it is a new poster, which might confirm a popular theory about Five. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, The Umbrella Academy debuted on Netflix in February 2019 and was a big hit, surpassing one of the streaming giant’s most popular titles. A few months later, the series was renewed for a second season, scheduled for a July 31, 2020 release.

The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves siblings, all of them adopted by the eccentric billionaire and scientist Sir Reginald Hargreeves. The Hargreeves, along with other 36 babies, were born on the same day, at the same time, and none of their mothers was pregnant when the day began. Reginald set out to adopt as many of those babies as he could, and he got seven. After each one of them began to develop unique sets of superpowers, Reginald trained them and formed the superhero group “The Umbrella Academy”. Sadly, Reginald was not a good father figure, and the Hargreeves ended up going on their own ways, beginning with Five (Aidan Gallagher).

Five has the ability to jump through time and space, and when he was 13-years old, he decided to go against Reginald’s orders and jump to the future. Five was unable to go back and spent decades in a post-apocalyptic future all by himself until he was recruited by The Commission. It took Five years to solve the equation he needed to go back to his time and warn his siblings about the apocalypse, and he finally figured it out while on a mission regarding the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Because The Commission is very strict, it sent agents after Five, but he cleverly managed to escape every time. However, he might not be able to keep running away from them in season 2, forcing him to complete that mission from November 22, 1963, and the newest poster for season 2 might confirm this.

In it, the sunglasses of each Hargreeves kid have a different reflection, with Five’s being that of a building. Although it’s hard to figure out what building it is (could very well be the Hargreeves residence back in the 1960s), DigitalSpy points out it looks like the Texas School Book Depository, where shooter Lee Harvey Oswald was hiding during Kennedy’s assassination. This, along with the blood on Five’s face (which also made an appearance in his solo poster), could be confirmation of The Umbrella Academy season 2 following the Dallas storyline closely and sending Five to fulfill the JFK mission.

In the comics, Five is threatened by his boss, Carmichael (a Shubunkin Goldfish), with killing his mother if he doesn’t finish the Kennedy assassination. He then travels to 1963 with Allison, who helps him as she has healed and can talk again. While young Five and the Temps try to convince older Five to kill Kennedy, Allison disguises herself as Mrs. Kennedy and carries on with the mission through a rumor. The blood and the reflection could be hinting at Five’s involvement in JFK’s death, meaning that season 2 of The Umbrella Academy will follow the comics (mostly Dallas) more closely than season 1 did, which took a lot of creative liberties. Or, simply, it just means that Five will continue killing a lot of people, mostly those from The Commission coming after him.
