When The Umbrella Academy aired its second season, it veered wildly from the comic books, and there is no telling what happens next. The season ended with the Hargreeves siblings averting another apocalypse and finally seeming to eliminate that albatross from around their neck. However, the ending came with a massive twist.
The season ended with the Hargreeves siblings returning to their normal time period, finally proving they were the heroes they were always meant to be. The problem is that they arrived and saw their timeline had changed drastically, and the Umbrella Academy was now called the Sparrow Academy, and in Season 3, everything is likely going to be different.
Who Are The Sparrow Academy?
The biggest question coming into Season 3 of Umbrella Academy is what the Sparrow Academy is? The last thing fans saw was Ben, alive and a jerk, the apparent leader of the newly named Sparrow Academy.
There were also many moments through the season where sparrow Easter eggs existed. Who are these people, what happened to the original team, and what is that floating green cube on the balcony? These are the biggest questions the season needs to answer.
What Is Sir Reginald Hargreeves?
Season 2 answered one big question from Season 1. Sir Reginald Hargreeves is an alien of some sort. In one major moment, Hargreeves visited his secret organization that makes sure to direct history the way they want it.
Their goal in this season was to kill John F. Kennedy, which Hargreeves was completely against. When they killed him, Hargreeves learned they were responsible and returned to kill them all. He unzipped his face, and all the viewers heard were screams. But what is he, what are his powers, and why is he on Earth?
Where Did Lila Go?
Lila Masters was the most interesting addition to the Umbrella Academy Season 2 cast. Diego met her while he was institutionalized in the past in Dallas. She turned out to be a plant, put there by the Commission, sent to watch and tag along with Diego.
She eventually fell for him and convinced him to join her at the Commission. However, she was so much more, and turned out to have superpowers as well. She escaped through time, and there is no telling where she went and whether she will have anything to do with the Sparrow Academy.
Are There More Superpowered People?
On The Umbrella Academy, there were 43 babies spontaneously born to previously not pregnant women. All the babies were born with superpowers. Seven of them were adopted by Reginald Hargreeves and became members of the Umbrella Academy. There was no word about the other 36 babies.
The Sparrow Academy almost surely is six of those special children plus Ben. It also seems likely that Lila is another. That is 14 superpowered people with a possible 32 remaining. Are any of them going to show up in Season 3?
What Happened To Grace?
Something changed for Sir Reginald Hargreeves between the time he met the Umbrella Academy in the past and the moment that he chose to collect his seven children to create the new Sparrow Academy. Diego warned Grace about Reginald, and he might have saved her life.
Something happened to her in the original timeline, and viewers only saw her as a robot. There is no telling how that happened, since she was a living human in the '60s. What happened to Grace in the original timeline, and where is she now that history has changed?
Is The Apocalypse Still Following Vanya?
If there is one thing that was made obvious in the first two seasons, the apocalypse was always about Vanya.
In the first season, she pulled the moon out of the sky and destroyed the Earth. In the past timeline, she blew up a federal building and caused Kennedy's assassination not to happen, which caused World War III. Has she shaken that curse with Season 2 ending without a catastrophe, or is she still the harbinger of the end of days?
How Has The Commission Changed?
Everything changes, but what about the Commission? Remember, this is an organization that exists to keep the timeline intact and unchanged. They failed, and not only did the Umbrella Academy change the timeline twice, but the Commission had all of its assassins killed in Season 2.
There are new people in charge now too. When the Umbrella Academy returned to a changed future, what is the Commission doing about it, if anything? Another good question is whether or not the Commission betrayed the Umbrella Academy when they sent them back home.
Are There Two Versions Of The Siblings?
The Hargreeves siblings returned to the present day and saw that they never existed as the Umbrella Academy. They obviously are the heroes trained by Hargreeves, but that was a different timeline. Anyone who watches time travel entertainment knows that changes create alternate worlds.
If Hargreeves never took these specific kids from their parents, they never became heroes. Are these alternate versions of the Hargreeves siblings in this world, and will they meet the originals?
Where Is Harlan Cooper?
Harlan Cooper is the young child that Vanya met in Season 2. He was a child that struggled with autism, whose parents were Sissy and Carl. His dad was abusive and ended up dying in Season 2 when he tried to take Harlan away. This led to Carl's death, and then Sissy finally left for California, where she could get him the help he needs.
However, Harlan is also extremely powerful, thanks to getting some of Vanya's powers. Where is he now, and how powerful has he become since he last met Vanya?
Does Allison Still Have A Daughter?
Sir Reginald Hargreeves never took in the Umbrella Academy, which means all their past histories were changed. As mentioned earlier, this could mean there are two different versions of the characters existing in this timeline now. It also means that what they did in the past no longer happened here, including Allison getting married and having a daughter that she ultimately had taken away from her.
Does changing the past mean that Claire never existed, and how would this revelation mess up an already damaged Allison Hargreeves?
