We recently learned that Inglourious Basterds writer/director, Quentin Tarantino is officially planning to do a third installment in his Kill Bill saga. “The Bride will fight again!” shouted QT in his trademark enthusiastic way on the Italian talk show, Talk To Me. He revealed he wants pt. 3 to take place 10 years after the events of Kill Bill Vol.2, presumably so that (SPOILER alert) Vernita Green’s daughter can be old enough to track down The Bride to get revenge for killing her mother right in front of her (that seems the most logical plot for a third movie).
So what does the actress who played the vengeful Bride, Uma Thurman have to say about Kill Bill 3? Well, MTV recently caught up with her while she was promoting her upcoming comedy, Motherhood, and she offered the following:
When asked if she’s talked to Tarantino about Kill Bill 3, and what she knows as the status of it, she said – “We did chat, we did chat… He [Tarantino] has not yet finished the script. I don’t even really know if he’s really started it, although I got a taste of some of his ideas and they are really good.” Unfortunately, she couldn’t give any specific details – “I can’t tell you! I’m sorry!” she said – but she did say that Tarantino has, “started to share with me what he was thinking, and it’s awesome.”
Since Tarantino and Thurman came up with the character of The Bride together (way back in 1994 when they made Pulp Fiction), you’d logically expect that she’d want to be involved with a third movie. And thankfully the actress has said just that – “Yeah, I think it’d be fun!”
That’s all we’ve got as the latest on the Kill Bill 3 front, but since we’re not likely to see the film for a few more years (if we’re taking Tarantino’s “10 years later” thing literally), that’s completely understandable. Even though we’re all pretty confident the next film will be about Vernita Green’s daughter getting revenge on The Bride – and thus Thurman would really have to reprise her role for continuity sake – it’s still nice to hear it from the actress herself that she’s down for a third film.
As for Tarantino having ideas and even a partly-done script, I’m sure that’s somewhat true. QT is not the type of filmmaker to take a film on lightly (he has, after all, only directed six films so far, if you count the Kill Bills as one), and he seems like the kind of guy who constantly is writing down notes of his ideas and keeping them until such time as they’re needed. But that’s just an avid fan making an educated guess…
What do you think about what Thurman has said about Kill Bill 3? What shape would you like the third installment in the series to take?
