Marvel has been working on having a strong presence across all forms of entertainment for years now. Its dominance in the film industry is well-established, and recent endeavors into live-action television (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter) have continued to do well for the studio. However, one of the Marvel divisions that has flown relatively under the radar so far has been the animated series on Disney XD.

Shows like Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man have been playing with some of the most ambitious comic book storylines for the past few seasons (the Spider-verse waseven explored recently in Ultimate Spider-Man), but neither have been able to garner the kind of dedicated fan following as other Marvel properties. It looks like Marvel is planning on growing their animated universe even more in the coming years though, as the studio just announced some new plans for their already existing shows - plans that should excite all those animation fans out there.

Marvel has officially ordered new seasons for both the Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers series on Disney XD, only this time - the shows won't have the names fans are familiar with. These new seasons of both shows will come with fresh titles too, with Ultimate Spider-Man becoming Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Six and Avengers Assemble becoming Avengers: Ultron Revolution (see above).

Ultron Revolution will see Earth's Mightiest facing off against iconic comic book characters like the Inhumans, Kang the Conqueror, Baron Zemo, the Masters of Evil, and more. Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Six will pick up with our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man - riding the high life after his recent adventures with the Avengers and his recent successes, until he discovers that Doctor Octopus, Hydra, and the new Sinister Six are teaming up to destroy him and everyone he cares about. In order to fight against the new band of villains, Spidey creates a new team consisting of Miles Morales, Agent Venom, Iron Spider, and the Scarlet Spider.

The two shows are set to premiere on Disney XD in 2016 and join a number of shows already set to be on the channel's lineup next year, including an animated Guardians of the Galaxy series.

Marvel's Avengers Assemble

Many fans likely prefer the short-lived Spectacular Spider-Man animated series over Ultimate Spider-Man - which replaced the former when Disney bought out Marvel - but the new developments and re-branding may be enough to bring those fans on board to the new season. The premise certainly sounds interesting, and with a new team consisting of some of the most interesting (and out-there) characters in the Spider-Man universe - Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister Six has the opportunity to establish itself as an entirely new and unique Spider-Man experience for fans.

Avengers: Ultron Revolution comes at an interesting time however, following the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron happening so recently and receiving mostly positive reviews - how audiences react to more Ultron-centric Avenger stories will likely decide how well-received the new season ends up being. Whether or not Marvel plans on intersecting Ultron Revolution with Ultimate Spider-Man is still unknown at this point, but fans will most likely see Spider-Man and the Avengers in the same universe again on TV - before Peter Parker officially joins the MCU.

Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble can be seen every Sunday Morning on Disney XD.
