F9 star, Tyrese Gibson, wants a Fast & Furious crossover with Transformers before Jurassic Park. As one of the biggest tent poles to be delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ninth film in the Fast franchise finally roars into theaters in the United States tomorrow, June 25. F9’s international release has already spelled tremendous success for Universal, putting the long-running franchise's global box office returns over $6 billion. F9’s US release is expected to follow suit with an estimated $60 million opening weekend.

Paramount’s Transformers franchise has enjoyed similar success at times, but its last installment directed by Michael Bay, The Last Knight, bombed at the box office, resulting in a $100 million loss for the studio and Hasbro. Due to franchise fatigue and a lack of representation which caused The Last Knight to drastically underperform at the box office, Paramount will be rebooting Transformers with a much more diverse cast in Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, and Lauren Vélez. To revitalize the franchise’s increasingly stale story, the next Transformers film will incorporate the beloved Beast Wars storyline from the 1990s TV series.

Now, F9 star Tyrese Gibson has apparently been paying attention to Paramount’s recent strides to revive the ailing franchise, as he wants Fast & Furious to crossover with Transformers. The mere idea of a F&F-Jurassic Park crossover was originally conceived by fans and has now caught on in circles online and was even addressed by multiple F9 and Jurassic World stars. But when ComicBook.com asked Gibson about it, he revealed he has another crossover in mind. Read what Gibson said below:

I don't know nothing about that, man. I'm thinking that the crossover would be more Transformers and Fast than Jurassic Park. Cars that become robots and vice versa. We can do that at first and then get to dinosaurs.

Since Fast & Furious and Transformers are both franchises largely centered around cars, Gibson is probably right about this crossover making more sense. However, the inspiration for a F&F crossover with the Jurassic series stems from the fact both franchises are from Universal Pictures. This inherently makes the crossover more likely since there would be no disputes over rights.

Conversely, the Transformers franchise is from Paramount and Hasbro. While a collaboration between the studios isn’t impossible, it is unlikely. One would also wonder why Fast & Furious, which past two installments have grossed over $1 billion each, would want to attach itself to a franchise seeing dwindling box office returns, but perhaps that will change with Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. However unlikely these crossovers may seem, the Fast franchise going to space was once considered equally implausible, but with this happening to some degree in F9, anything is possible.
