New International Posters For 'A Christmas Carol'

This year marks (amongst other things) yet another adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens tale, A Christmas Carol. This time Disney are having a go, enlisting the help of Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future trilogy) to write and direct, Jim Carrey to play Ebenezer Scrooge (as well as the Ghosts of Christmas Past/Present/Yet to Come), and the modern day effects of CGI, 3D and motion capture.

We got our first proper look at A Christmas Carol a couple of months ago with the first official poster (after a snapshot version appeared at Cannes), and then a closer, albeit small, look at a CGI Jim Carrey in a short clip that looked very impressive, indeed.

Today we have a couple more ads for A Christmas Carol in the form of two international posters, one Chinese and one German. The Chinese one is fairly standard and nothing we haven't seen before as far as this movie is concerned. But the German poster is just fantastic - check them both out below:

The first poster is kind of "meh," but that second one is gorgeous - now that's how creative all movie posters should be! I usually hate the floating heads thing we see in most other posters, but the marketing folks behind A Christmas Carol have come up with a brilliant way of still having it, but not in the usual ineffective, boring way. I just hope they recognize how good that design is and use it on the US and UK posters.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of 3D movies, the motion capture, and the combined talents of Carrey and Zemeckis in front and behind the camera respectively, have me excited to see the movie. A Christmas Carol is a tale that has been told many-a-time, but I'm sure this modern day CGI technology will give us something unique while staying true to the source material.

What do you think of these new international posters for A Christmas Carol, particularly the second one? Do you think the CGI, 3D and motion capture technologies will gel with the classic Charles Dickens tale?

A Christmas Carol stars Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Bob Hoskins, Robin Wright Penn and Colin Firth. It opens in theatres on November 6th, 2009.
