After a rocky road upon Charlie Sheen’s departure from the show, Two and a Half Men’s ratings were rapidly decreasing with each consecutive season, and it was only a matter of time until the show was going to be put to bed. Of all the final episodes of each season, season 12 features the worst season finale according to IMDb, leaving many of the fans’ expectations unmet.

At one point, the show literally insulted the fans, as characters broke the fourth wall and asked the audience why they enjoy the show’s dumb jokes. Nevertheless, there were still some memorable moments that were typically Two and a Half Men.

Great: Rose’s Typical Obsession With Charlie

Rose two and a half men

After a one-night stand with the bachelor, Rose (Melanie Lynskey) became obsessed with Charlie and stalked him relentlessly, which is one of the things that makes no sense about her given that she’s actually a psychotherapist. However, the running gag of her trying to entrap Charlie into a relationship is always hilarious, and it reaches its apex in the finale when it’s revealed that he has been trapped in her dungeon the whole time.

Disappointing: Becomes A Complete Fantasy

From resurrecting Charlie from the dead, though it’s explained that he was never actually dead, to Charlie having sex with a goat, to a piano being delivered by helicopter only to be dropped on Charlie’s head, the show turns into a complete fantasy.

It such a strange episode for this exact reason, as it doesn’t stick to the rules of the world. In all of its 12 seasons, Two and a Half Men has never once broken the fourth wall or been so off-the-wall surreal.

Great: Evelyn Straight Up Abandoning Alan

Evelyn Harper smiles while in Charlie's kitchen in Two and a Half Men

There are many things about her that would never fly today, including the way she has treated both of her sons ever since birth. But as wanting nothing to do with her family is something Evelyn (Holland Taylor) has wanted ever since the first episode, the moment when she runs out of the beach house for the last time is one of the funniest parts of the finale.

In fear that Charlie will come and attack her, she has no care in the world that she’s never going to see Alan (Jon Cryer) or Walden (Ashton Kutcher) again, and it’s typically Evelyn.

Disappointing: The Strange Animated Sequence

In the middle of the 40 minute episode, as Rose is explaining how she and Charlie went on a romantic getaway to Paris, it cuts to an animated scene showing everything she is describing. This includes Charlie having a threesome with a goat, having his nose literally turn into a vacuum cleaner to snort cocaine, and being strapped up like Hannibal Lecter. And even besides the content of the animated sequence, the actual scene is so out of place and it looks terrible.

Great: The Cameos

Christian Slater in Two And A Half Men

The 40 minute final episode features some of the most random cameos of all time, and why these specific actors were chosen to appear in the finale is a mystery. It isn’t because they are bad actors or not worthy, but it’s because they are so random and completely unrelated to the show. However, they are still fun, as Arnold Schwarzenegger appears as a police commissioner and Christian Slater appears as the guy who the police presume to be Charlie, even donning the same bowling shirt.

Disappointing: Cheap Shots At Charlie Sheen

Two and a Half Men Finale

There might have been a lot of times we hated Charlie, as he was constantly cheating on women and treating them like objects, but the whole episode wasn’t just attacking the character of Charlie, but the real-life Charlie Sheen.

Every other Joke that came out of one of the character’s mouth was related to Sheen’s struggle with drug and sex addiction, which just isn’t funny. To make it worse, the element of fantasy that was added to the show turned the real-life actor into a laughingstock.

Great: Berta’s Satisfying Ending

two and a half men

Berta (Conchata Ferrell), first Charlie’s and now Walden’s maid, is one of the best characters of the show and thankfully, of all the characters in the show, she is the only one with a satisfying ending. Though Two and a Half Man would look a lot different if it was recast today, the late, great Ferrell plays the character hilariously when she finally gets what she always wanted, to retire. Always humoring Charlie might have been one of the worst things she did, but it worked out in her favor, as Charlie sent her $250,000.

Disappointing: No Appearance From Charlie

Two and a Half Men series finale ending Charlie returns piano

It wouldn’t have been so bad that Sheen never showed up if the episode didn’t allude to it so much. When it’s revealed in the very opening scene of the episode that Charlie is actually alive, it sets in motion the expectation of Sheen returning as the jingle playing bachelor one last time. From that point on, it builds and builds on that very expectation, and in reality, that’s all fans want to see, but he never appears.

Great: Alan Calling His Exes

Being kicked out by Judith (Marin Hinkle) is one of the times we felt bad for him, but regardless of how often he gets rejected by her, whether it’s because she becomes a lesbian, gets remarried, or is just repulsed by him, Alan still pines over her. After 12 years nothing has changed, as when he thinks he’s going to be murdered, he calls Judith to tell her he loves her. She then hilariously hangs up on him. Following that, as Alan is so desperate for the slightest kind of intimacy, he calls all of his exes to say the exact same thing.

Disappointing: Chuck Lorre’s Appearance

Chuck lorre Croppedx

Being the creator of the show, Chuck Lorre’s feud with Sheen when he was still on the show made headlines, but it’s highly unlikely that the average viewer knows who Lorre is. However, that didn’t stop the sitcom creator from making the final episode all about himself. The final shot of the episode sees all of the characters sidelined just to show Lorre sitting in a director’s chair, turning to the camera, and saying, “winning!” right after he dropped a piano on Charlie’s head.
