Danny DeVito teases the Twins 2 sequel, known as Triplets, currently in the works with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tracy Morgan. DeVito starred opposite Schwarzenegger in Ivan Reitman's 1988 buddy comedy film, Twins. Based on the concept of two unlikely fraternal twin brothers separated at birth, the film revolves around the contrast between the streetwise Vincent (DeVito) and the naive Julius (Schwarzenegger).

Reitman's film was a commercial success, grossing over $216 million worldwide at the box office. Interesting enough, DeVito, Schwarzenegger, and Reitman opted to take 40% of the film's box office returns, rather than their usual salaries. This resulted in all three of the filmmakers receiving the biggest pay checks of their entire careers. However, while the film was commercially successful, it received mixed reviews from critics upon release. Although the movie currently sits at a 43% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes, it's massive success at the box office has warranted a sequel for years.

Sitting down for an interview with Forbes, DeVito teased the Twins 2 sequel that is set to star Schwarzenegger and Morgan. The 77-year-old actor reveals that he's "kept in touch with Ivan and Arnold over the years." He also says the movie's been "a long time coming," and that he "can't wait to do it." DeVito also mentions he's "so excited" about having Morgan in the film as well. View DeVito's entire quote about the upcoming Twins 2 sequel below:

“I’ve kept in touch with Ivan [Reitman] and Arnold [Schwarzenegger] over the years and it’s going to be a joy. I can’t wait to do it. That’s a long time coming. We’re going to have some fun and we have Tracy Morgan also in it and I’m so excited about that.”

Arnold Scharzenegger Pranks Danny DeVito On Set Of Twins 2

Universal had originally announced development of the project back in March 2012. Titled Triplets, the sequel was set to see both Schwarzenegger and DeVito reprise their roles and add comedian Eddie Murphy as their long lost triplet brother. Schwarzenegger confirmed the script for Triplets was finished back in March of 2018, and that Murphy was officially attached to the movie. The action star elaborated how Murphy was set to be the original pair's brother by putting it down to a "funny thing that happens in the mixing of the sperm." No new information about the movie was announced until September of 2021, when the studio not only confirmed filming would begin in January of 2022, but also that Morgan was set to replace Murphy as the third unlikely brother.

While the Twins sequel has seen a few iterations since its first announcement in 2012, many will be relieved to see that DeVito's comment confirms that the movie is still in the works. What's more, the actor also confirms that Reitman is set to direct the project, which will be comforting to fans of the original film. Although the debut Twins movie received a mixed critical reception, there's no denying its commercial success. How fans will take to the sequel remains to be seen, but adding a third long lost brother in way of Morgan to the mix should help make Twins 2 feel fresh and funny.
