Is The Twilight Zone season 2 in the works, and if so, when will it release? Based on the original series created by Rod Serling, the CBS All-Access reboot was developed by Jordan Peele, Simon Kinberg, and Marco Ramirez, which consisted of only 10 episodes in season 1.

Concluding with the "Blurryman" episode that took things to a meta level, The Twilight Zone season 1 received generally positive reviews from critics, holding a Rotten Tomatoes score of 74 percent. However, the audience score tells a different story: Rotten Tomatoes' audience score currently sits at 43 percent for the full season. Quite a few, though certainly not all, fans of the original Twilight Zone series took issue with the stories, twists, and heavy themes presented in season 1, while still praising the overall style of production. On April 29, CBS All Access ordered The Twilight Zone season 2. This came right after five episodes had aired of The Twilight Zone season 1. Given the talent involved with The Twilight Zone season 1 - both on camera and behind the scenes - it makes sense for CBS All-Access to test the waters moving forward, and to try out new creative concepts. The Twilight Zone season 1 features the direction of notable filmmakers like Ana Lily Amirpour (The Bad Batch), Richard Shepard (The Perfection), and Craig William Macneill (Channel Zero: Candle Cove).

Twilight Zone Point of Origin

For The Twilight Zone season 1, the duration for each episode ranged from 37 to 56 minutes, which took months to film. So it’s most likely that CBS All-Access will follow the same production schedule and slot The Twilight Zone season 2 for a spring 2020 release taking into account their release schedules for other shows on the streaming service as well as season 1's production timetable. This will also allow the platform to line up more big names for each new episode.

When The Twilight Zone season 2 was ordered, CBS All-Access’ Executive Vice President of Original Contact, Julie McNamara, noted their intention to provide more “socially conscious storytelling.” While it’s unclear if the basic format will stay the same for The Twilight Zone season 2, viewers can expect Peele to draw inspiration from current events and past movie classics, along with episodes from the original series. The Twilight Zone season 1 episode Nightmare at 30,000 Feet” was inspired by the 1963 episode “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”, so it's possible more modern remakes or re-imaginings will happen along the way.
