Summit Entertainment has made a casting announcement for New Moon regarding the wolf pack, who play an essential part of the story for in the sequel to last year’s Twilight.
The wolf pack members share history with the Cullen family and in this movie they act as protectors for humans against vampires. Taylor Lautner who plays Jacob Black in Twilight is of course, back for the sequel and is also a member of the wolf pack.
I’ve taken the casting announcement part of the press release for you to see:
Summit Entertainment announced today that Native American/First Nation actors Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman have signed on to star as the members of the wolf pack in THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON.
Each member of the wolf pack is of Native decent. Spencer is Lakota (Sioux), Pelletier is Cree-Metis, Meraz is Purepecha (Tarasco), Gordon is Hualapai, and Houseman, who was discovered at an open casting call, is Cree. Casting of the wolf pack was overseen by award-winning casting director Rene Haynes who is well-known for her work on Native projects ranging from DANCES WITH WOLVES to BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE.
I applaud Summit for selecting appropriate actors for these roles rather than simply casting recognizable actors – They obviously have a strong enough fanbase to do this and are riding on the success of last November’s Twilight which brought in over $370 Million in worldwide box office sales.
So, now they’ve completed casting for New Moon and are set for filming which is supposed to begin this week.
Are you Twilight fans excited for the quick release of the sequel or does the speed of its production concern you?
The Twilight Saga: New Moon opens November 20, 2009.
