Back in the day when Twilight was at the height of its popularity, the whole Twilight saga seemed to have a bit of a rivalry with the Harry Potter series. It was the vampire fans vs. the witch fans and romance fans vs. friendship fans. But really, why bother competing when you could team up instead?

Everyone and their mother probably knows what Hogwarts house they'd be sorted into at this point, and it's always interesting to ponder which Hogwarts house everyone's favorite fictional characters would wind up in as well. The Twilight saga didn't really address the existence of magic, witches, or wizards, but it's not too hard to imagine that the Cullen family could have occupied the same fictional world as Harry Potter.

So, if the Twilight crew was sent off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy, which house would the sorting hat have placed them in?

Charlie Swan - Gryffindor

Charlie Swan looking serious in Twilight

Charlie Swan feels like the kind of guy who would have been a hat stall, stuck between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, but ultimately he would have gone to Gryffindor. Charlie is a very naturally reserved and traditional kind of man, but as the chief of police in the small but action-packed town of Forks, Washington he definitely has to be braver and bolder than your average dude.

Granted, Charlie has no clue that he's surrounded by hordes of the most dangerous supernatural predators on the planet, but he does know that Forks suffers from a lot of bad luck and he's never shy about putting himself on the front lines in defense of it.

Esme Cullen - Hufflepuff

Esme Cullen is such a quintessential Hufflepuff that if someone were to declare that she literally was Helga Hufflepuff in disguise, it wouldn't be that difficult to believe. The fundamental basis of house Hufflepuff is taking on all students of magic and guiding them towards a proper understanding of their talent and skill, and that's actually a pretty apt comparison to the entire Cullen family.

Esme and Carlisle are more than happy to collect stray vampire children and help them along in a safe and kind vampire life, and Esme clearly has a deep-rooted and strong maternal instinct as well as an unstoppable kind streak.

Carlisle Cullen - Ravenclaw

Sometimes there are people who seem like they would be a good fit for a few different Hogwarts houses, but there are others who just seem like they were tailor-made for one particular house. Carlisle Cullen definitely falls into the latter category. Carlisle and his wife Esme are clearly the leaders of the entire Cullen family, but it was really Carlisle whose ideas and morals were the driving force behind what the family became.

Emmett Cullen - Gryffindor

Gryffindor is well known as the house of the bold and the brave, and if Emmett Cullen ever showed up at Hogwarts it would probably take the sorting hat about 2.5 seconds to assign him straight to the house of the lion.

Honestly, the only thing that could possibly make Emmett seem less like a Gryffindor is that you can only be brave if you're afraid, and Emmett doesn't seem to even experience fear. On the contrary, when he's faced with an exceptionally dangerous situation, he seems to be more excited by the action than concerned about anything else.

Rosalie Hale - Slytherin

Rosalie Hale in Twilight

Slytherin house is well known for representing cunning and self-preservation, so it's a pretty natural fit for someone like Rosalie Hale. Rosalie can come off as cold and uncaring to anyone that she's unfamiliar with, and sometimes her behavior and treatment of those around her can be almost cruel.

She's not an evil person at heart, in fact, Rosalie can be extremely caring and kind towards the people she really does care about. That said,  if it means keeping herself safe or ensuring the safety of the people she loves, Rosalie has no qualms about leaving somebody else to the wolves (literally, sometimes).

Jasper Hale - Slytherin

Jasper Hale isn't much of a chatterbox, but his backstory and life experiences are enough to warrant his admission into house Slytherin. In his human life, Jasper was a soldier in the Confederate army; as a newborn vampire, Jasper found himself conscripted into a vampire army.

Jasper's makers tasked him with creating a strong enough newborn vampire company to overtake some of the local territories that they had lost, and Jasper actually managed to create quite the powerful force. The ability to not only control himself as a newborn but to command an entire militia of other newborn vampires is a level of cunning that most people could never even hope to achieve.

Alice Cullen - Ravenclaw

Alice

Many of the vampires in the Twilight saga are gifted with unusual and unique superpowers, but nothing can truly match Alice's ability to see into the future. Even the Volturi envy and fear her power. Let's be realistic, that kind of power requires an insane, almost incomprehensible amount of intelligence too.

Alice says that the future constantly changes, and she can look into anyone's future at any time really (even if they're on the other side of the world, as demonstrated with Bella). Alice was absolutely meant to be a Ravenclaw, and she has the kind of noggin that probably would have made all of the other students jealous.

Jacob Black - Gryffindor

Jacob Black

Just realistically speaking, any person who becomes the alpha wolf of their pack has got to be sorted into house Gryffindor. As the leader of the pack, a lot of responsibility falls on Jacob's shoulders, so he has to exhibit traits of every single Hogwarts house in some way or another.

As the leader of a squad of horse-sized vampire hunters, being a brave and near fearless leader is one personal quality that has to be front and center all day, every day. Unsurprisingly Jacob's boldness can get him into a world of trouble, but he just is that type of person.

Edward Cullen - Hufflepuff

Edward

Poor, sad Edward Cullen. He spent his entire vampire life all lonely and depressed. Finally, after a hundred years of waiting to find a girlfriend, Edward finally meets Bella and decides to settle down to try and have a semi-normal life.

Instead, he finds himself constantly thrown into all manner of supernatural shenanigans. Throughout the Twilight saga, Edward is forced into a lot of roles that he is not particularly comfortable assuming. In his heart, the vampire just wants to have a peaceful home with a happy family that loves each other. Which is why he's an ideal Hufflepuff.

Bella Swan - Hufflepuff

Bella Swan played by Kristen Stewart in Twilight.

Since Edward and Bella are pretty much star-crossed soul mates, it's no real surprise that they would have wound up in the same house had they gone to Hogwarts. Bella is an absolute danger magnet and has had to do a lot of wild stuff to survive. Like Edward, she really just wants to live a normal happy life with the people she loves.

As a prototypical Hufflepuff, Bella seems to be loving (or at least accepting) towards everyone around her, whether they're a human being, a vegetarian vampire, or an absurdly large wolf person.
