Twilight's Bella only has eyes for Edward, and at times Jacob, though it's obvious she always saw him as more of a best friend than a love interest.  So it's particularly hard to think of Bella Swan with anyone else than Edward, but that doesn't mean she should have been with him over others.

Edward Cullen is probably the most dangerous character Bella could have been with mostly because of his stubborn nature. While most of the Cullens were happy to turn better so she and they could be safer, Edward held his ground and deny Bella the ability to make her own choices about her life, proving to be quite controlling.

If you think Bella and Edward shouldn't have been together, here are ten characters Bella should have been with.

Jacob

As the team Jacob fans would be happy to tell anyone willing to listen, the fans of the movies and book series have always thought that Bella would have been better off if she had ended up with Jacob. Jacob is less creepy than Edward and he's alive. Bella wouldn't have needed to become a vampire if she ended up with Jacob. Her dad would have also been happy about it, given he's known the Blacks forever, and Billy Black is his best friend. Jacob was more willing to what Bella herself wanted, and life would have been somewhat simpler though still filled with the adventure Bella clearly craves.

Mike

Mike was clearly interested in Bella throughout the Twilight series, much like the other boys at her school, and he was clearly pursuing her. If Edward wasn't around, Mike might have caught Bella's attention, not having any other competition in his way. Despite Mike being a bit of a schmuck, Bella liked him enough, and they probably would have started off as friends.

Bella would probably have liked how interested he was in the things she was interested in, and Mike would have learned a lot from Bella. Charlie would have probably liked him, especially given he's a good enough kid.

Jessica

While the books or movies don't actually mention that Bella was straight, it's assumed because she dates Edward. However, given Bella's sexuality isn't for sure known, it's safe to assume she might have also been interested in dating women. Jessica, while she's the exact opposite of Bella, might have complimented Bella. Jessica is a lot more carefree and fun, and Bella might have learned to relax a little more and enjoy being a teenager. Bella would have grounded anxious Jessica and helped her feel a little more confident in her own self-worth.

Rosalie

Nikki Reed as Rosalie Hale

Like Jessica, Rosalie is also very different than Bella. She knows what she wants, she's terribly confident, and she doesn't like people easily. If she wasn't dating Emmett, she would also compliment Bella well. But Rosalie, like Bella, doesn't trust easily, and the two young women would have had to move into a relationship slowly. They would have developed a friendship first before they would have dated, but given both of their passionate natures, it would have been a very intense relationship.

Rosalie is fiercely loyal and would have protected Bella from any problems that may have arisen. Given Rosalie didn't want to be a vampire herself, she might have not turned Bella, and the same problems that Bella faced with Edward might have happened.

Emmet

Emmett and Bella got along really well and really easily as soon as they met, so it makes sense that the two could date. Emmett is funny and charming and makes Bella laugh really easily. If he wasn't dating Rosalie, it makes sense that he and Bella could have had a fun relationship. Like Rosalie, he's also fiercely loyal and would have done anything to take care of Bella, which he proves over and over during the Twilight movie and book series. Because he's less stubborn than Edward, he probably would have turned Bella quicker, avoiding all of the problems that arose when Edward tried to keep her human.

Alice

Alice Cullen looking serious in Twilight

Many LGBTQ+ fans of the series have shipped Bella and Alice for years, and many fanfiction stories pair the two characters. Given Bella and Alice get along like a house on fire and have great chemistry, it's not hard to believe the two characters could have dated if Alice wasn't with Jaspar.

Unlike Edward, Charlie loves Alice and probably would have loved to have her as a daughter-in-law. And given Alice can see the future, she would have known that she would have to turn Bella eventually, and would have just done it right away to avoid conflict.

Angela

Angela in Twilight

Unlike Jessica, Angela is quite mellow, just like Bella. The two young women are both smart and interesting, and if they would have gotten to know each other better, Bella might have discovered Angela's uniqueness. Out of all the people on this list, Angela would have probably been the safest person for Bella to date, and also the most likely of the humans. Twilight audiences just didn't get the chance to see the two young women interact much given Mike and Jessica took up so much space trying to woo Bella. The two shy women would probably have understood each other better than anyone else.

Leah Clearwater

Bella is clearly attracted to strong energies, given her quick interest in Edward. Leah Clearwater, similarly, has a very strong and intense energy that would have drawn Bella in. Leah, unlike many of the other teenagers at Bella's school, is mature and grounded, having clearly seen a lot that would have made her grow up very quickly.

Bella has had to take care of her mom who is a bit childish, so Bella is a parentified child, and as a kid that has to grow up quickly like Leah, they would have sought each other out for having similar experiences.

Jasper

Jackson Rathbone as Jasper Hale Cullen in Twilight.

If Jasper Hale wasn't dating Alice, he would be a perfect match for Bella. Both of the characters are loners who love to mope, so Jasper and Bella would have understood each other and gotten along. We don't see them interact much on-screen or in the books but Bella clearly admires Jasper for his intelligence his self-control (most of the time) and his removed nature. Jasper and Edward are probably the closest in nature, both brooding and a little removed, which seems to attract Bella. However, Jasper, as we can tell with Alice, is not so stubborn and probably would have allowed Bella to call more of the shots, making the relationship more equal.

Herself

Bella is clearly uninterested in any of the people at her school (beyond Edward). If Edward had never shown any interest in Bella, or if he and his family had never settled in Forks, she probably wouldn't have gotten together with any of her classmates or anyone in her town. As a loner, Bella needed someone else that felt on the outskirts, someone who could understand that she wasn't interested in the usual high school drama or activities. Bella probably would have ended up meeting someone in college, probably in an English Literature she was taking, someone who liked the same books as her, and someone who could intellectually stimulate her.
