The sprightly and exuberant Alice is a fan favorite in Twilight and die-hards fans can't get enough of Edward's vampire sister. They share an unbreakable bond with each other, and Alice's warm and loving reaction to Bella's appearance in the Cullens' lives is well adored by fans of the franchise.

Being such a popular character, Reddit is bursting with forums that discuss the fashionable vampire in great detail. Sometimes, the opinions of these fans get be controversial or uproariously entertaining. However, there are a few that can be deemed unpopular by fans and would certainly cause a huge debate among the community.

Her And Bella Weren't Really Friends

Rosalie, Alice, and Bella look into a mirror as Bella gets ready for her wedding in Breaking Dawn.

One of the biggest plot points in Twilight was the sweet friendship that Bella and Alice shared. However, there are a few fans, like Reddit user Jolie842, who were not convinced by their camaraderie, and thought that Alice treated Bella more like a "doll than her best friend."

As a vampire, Alice was going to be different from Bella's more modern friends. Her way of showing affection to Bella was by giving her the best clothes and accessories — her love language was gifting and acts of service. She always sided with Bella, accepted her before even Edward did, and drove across the country to check on her in New Moon, so it's a little unfair to say that she wasn't a real friend to Bella.

Alice Running Away In Breaking Dawn Was Out Of Character

To keep everybody safe, Alice and Jasper made the family believe that they had run away, whereas they had gone to find Nahuel to prove that Renesmee wasn't dangerous to the Volturi. Reddit user predoucheous felt that her behavior was out of character, stating how "The vision of the Volturi was ominous and not what I would consider Alice's personality. And then at the end for the grand reveal she's in business mode. Where is the best friend Bella has ever had?"

Truthfully, Alice's actions in Breaking Dawn were exactly congruent with her protective nature for her family. She knew that she had to keep her thoughts hidden from Edward, so she did what was best and let the Cullens think that they had deserted them. Alice knew that her staying away was best for the family, and she wanted to keep them safe even if it meant that they thought badly of her.

She Wanted Bella To Get A Papercut

A very controversial opinion by Reddit user Tall_Phrase_9367 is that the tiny papercut that spawned the disturbing chain of events in New Moon were orchestrated by Alice. They state that "It is just as likely that Alice allowed Bella to get a paper cut too... She filters through possible futures and acts when she wants to solidify the future she wants [...] Alice's brother gets irrational though and refuses to change Bella, creating an unnecessary series of issues for the Cullen family and Forks."

There are too many flaws in this conspiratorial opinion, the foremost being that Alice would never want Jasper's sobriety to suffer the way it did because of the papercut, nor would she want to hurt Bella or her brother that way. This route is too malicious for someone as sweet and happy as Alice, and she believed in free will and choice. She was one of the most powerful vampires in Twilight, but her morality was stronger.

She Let Bella Escape In Phoenix

James terrorizes Bella in Twilight.

In a similar vein, a few Redditors feel that Alice was a mastermind who used her powers in a more sinister way than readers thought possible. Reddit user Happy-case said "Maybe Alice saw Bella’s plan to escape her in the hotel because she saw if James never actually caught Bella in Phoenix, he may have ended up chasing her for years. So I think that fits with your idea of Alice being willing to take some risks for the long-term benefit of the family."

A crucial thing to remember is that Edward could read minds, and he was especially attuned to Alice's mind because they communicated telepathically more often than not. The possibility of Bella getting killed by James was too high for Alice to take that risk, and Edward would have known as soon as he reached Phoenix if Alice had known, which would have destroyed their relationship forever. It's unlikely that Alice let the course of events unfold knowingly.

There Was No Real Reason She Loved Jasper

Alice and jasper smile together in breaking dawn

Jasper and Alice' romance is one for the books, but not everybody agrees on that. Some feel that there was no real connection between the two vampires. "I mean Jasper is very empathic and Alice typically always has good vibes going so that explains that side very well. But besides her visions, what would Alice find endearing about Jasper?" said Reddit user Prestigious_Ad3332.

It's safe to say that the two lost vampires saved each other, literally. Jasper had been loved by a woman who had used him as a pawn, and he had been surrounded by violence, which hit him harder than others since he could read emotions. Book fans of Twilight would know that Alice had spent her life locked up in a sanitorium and left alone when she was turned. Her visions of Jasper kept her motivated to keep living and find him, and Jasper finally had someone who had real affection for him and could show him a peaceful path to living. As supernatural beings, there is some magic involved in their love story, which contributes to the drama of it.

Her Changing Appearances Were Unnecessary

The little but mighty vampire's appearance formed a core part of her character, so people were predictably troubled by some of the styling changes that Alice went through in the movies. Her pixie haircut was a highlight, and Reddit user siniylia said "Alice’s hair getting progressively shorter. ugh... just wHY?? I mean Ashley Greene can definitely rock a pixie, but her hair was perfect in Twilight! Vampires aren’t meant to change appearances anyway."

While Reddit has a point about changing appearances, Alice was the one Cullen who was obsessed with fashion. She loved staying on trend and shopping for new clothes, so why would hairstyles be exempt from that? The vampire could very well go to a salon and get a hair cut, or hair extensions, or even have a family member do it for them (since it's likely they have a hairstyling degree hidden somewhere). Some Twilight characters didn't look right in the movies, but Alice certainly did.

She Should Have Swam To Italy With Bella

Alice Cullen removes her scarf and shades in New Moon.

A delightfully hilarious opinion about Alice's choice of transport to Italy with Bella is a hot topic of discussion on reddit forums, with many posters wondering why they had to take a 15-hour-long flight to Italy when they could have just swam to Europe. Reddit user Klaraboew debated "When I watch New Moon I think instead of flying to Italy, Bella should have just [held on to] Alice as she swam across the ocean."

So much about this is bizarre in a way that makes one laugh out loud. It would be entirely unfeasible for Bella to stay attached to Alice if she swam to Italy, not to mention the weather, the wildlife, and how taxing the journey would be on both the human and the vampire. A plane would also be way faster than swimming, hands down.
